The Detroit Red Wings didn’t say goodbye to Michal Postava Thursday as much they said “See, you later.”

Postava grabbed everyone’s attention with a memorable 4-3 shootout win against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. The Czech netminder showed he is next in line for a Detroit goaltending job. But with Daniil Tarasov recovered from an injury, and Postava on an emergency call-up he had to go back to the AHL.

But his effort against the Oilers, particularly when he stoned Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the shootout, gives the Red Wings comfort that he is ready to step up if John Gibson or Tarasov is hurt for an extended period.

Postava is now 1-0 in the NHL and 4-0 in the AHL this season.

“There was a little excitement on the trip obviously with Postie getting his first win,” Detroit coach Todd McLellan said. “That injected some energy.”

The Red Wings also called up Sheldon Dries to replace Dylan Larkin who has told the team that he is not coming to the rink anymore. He asked to be traded in the summer, and he hasn’t changed his mind. The Red Wings have suspended him.

The Griffins sent goalie Carter Gylander and Jacob Truscott back to Toledo to make room for Postava. The Griffins play their only game this week Sunday in Chicago.
