The Philadelphia 76ers star Jaylen Brown spoke to the media after tonight’s win over the Indiana Pacers and finally addressed a recent controversial report claiming he gave the Boston Celtics an ultimatum: meet his demands or trade him this summer.
“I guess it is what it is. I saw that; I saw Scal has made some comments. I don’t have any issue with Scal; I love Scal. He’s doing what he has to do; I understand why he feels the need to do that,” Jaylen Brown said.
“But I have no interest in letting any false allegations follow me to my next chapter here in Philadelphia. I never demanded a trade; I never made a list of ultimatums of any sort. None of that is true,” he added.
“As of now, I’m focused on what’s in front of me here in Philadelphia. I’ve got a tremendous opportunity, and I’m looking forward to that. I’m just going to leave those questions for another time; for the season, I’m just focused on what’s in front of me,” Jaylen Brown concluded.
Former NBA player Brian Scalabrine previously claimed Jaylen Brown went to the Celtics’ front office with an ultimatum: meet his demands or trade him. Later, he walked back on those claims on live television, since Scalabrine is also a Celtics broadcaster for NBC Boston.
But he kept maligning the former Celtics player with subtle jabs and outright criticism after the retraction. He called out Jaylen Brown for playing the victim card and, during last night’s live broadcast, reminded viewers that Brown led the league in turnovers last season.
So it is clear that while Brown claims it’s all love between the two, Scalabrine still holds some resentment toward the 76ers star.
Jaylen Brown wants to put the negative things associated with his former team behind him, including his beef with Jayson Tatum. Hence, Brown has taken the high road and is focused on his on-court performance for now.
The 76ers beat the Pacers 114-109 in a roller-coaster matchup tonight. The 76ers lost a 15-point first-half lead, and the Pacers gave up a 13-point fourth-quarter lead as Philadelphia won it down the stretch.
Jaylen Brown finished tonight’s game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block while shooting 7-for-13 from the field (53.8% FG) and 1-for-3 from beyond the arc (33.3% 3P).
After this win, the 76ers’ record has improved to 4-1, and they are set to face the Knicks on Friday, October 30.
