Tsimba goals help Bullets back on top

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets fresh signing Tinaye Tsimba has scored twice and earned the man of the match accolade at CIVO Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday.

This comes as his side cruised past MAFCO 3-0, with the other goal coming from Clever Kalambo.

The result has made Bullets to climb back on top of the 2026/27 FDH Bank Premiership log table with 36 points from 17 games, dislodging Wanderers who have 35 points.

The two goals are the first for Tsimba, a 23-year-old Zimbabwean national, who signed for the reds on 27 August 2026 on a two-year contract.

He was introduced in the second half replacing striker, Ephraim Kondowe.

Coach for Bullets, Wedson Nyirenda, said the attacker has a good sense of holding the ball.

“That is what we were lacking from Ephraim. He did a lot of running and at some time lost some steam to hold the ball up there,” Nyirenda said.

In the match, Bullets started it with an attacking intent with the first goal coming in the 13th minute via Clever Kalambo.

In the 17th minute, MAFCO had their best highlight then by a counter attack led by Clifford Msowoya who made a long shot, only for it to be blocked by the opposing keeper, Innocent Nyasulu.

Ten minutes later, Msowoya had an attempt on target, only that it was denied by the post.

In the second half, MAFCO’s Msowoya made a strong header which was connected from Chifundo Moloson, but Bullets’ Nyasulu catched it.

The visitors also threatened in the 65th minute as George Chaomba’s strike hit the post, despite beating the keeper, Owen Mbale.

In the 87th minute, Tsimba scored and did it again in the 90+3 minute.

On the log table, MAFCO remain 14th from 16th with 13 points.

Assistant Coach for the losing side, Ted Thuwala Kalinda, said the defeat is a painful.

“Very disappointing indeed considering that we played very well, we created a lot of scoring opportunities, but unfortunately the result is the decider of the game,” Kalinda said.

On the other hand, Nyirenda, Bullets’ gaffer, said the game was a difficult one, despite the victory.

“We knew [that] we are going to find a game like this one because playing a team which is struggling at the bottom — they throw everything at you. Being Nyasa, every game is a final. We scored our first goal at a good time,” he said.

He added that their opponents gave them pressure as they also controlled the midfield for quite some time.

Elsewhere, Blue Eagles, who are third with 34 points, thumped Chitipa United 3-0, courtesy of a Tonic Viyuyu’s brace and Webster Nzunda’s 75th minute goal.

Silver Strikers are keeping up with the chase as they lie 4th with 32 points following a 1-0 win against Moyale FC at Mzuzu Stadium.

6th and 7th placed sides, who are also tied on points, Red Lions and Ekhaya FC, alayed a goalless draw at Zomba Stadium, to keep them transfixed on the table standings.
