New Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer stance emerges as Liverpool handed fresh twist

Former Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to face some difficulties at Real Madrid, with links persisting around a potential transfer exit

Trent Alexander-Arnold is not considering an exit from Real Madrid, according to reports, as clubs move into position for a potential deal for the former Liverpool man.

The right-back has struggled to assert himself for Los Blancos since his controversial exit from Anfield last summer, as several challenges have come his way over the past year.

Muscle injuries and a lack of momentum saw Alexander-Arnold struggle last season as the number one choice in his position. In contrast, this campaign has seen plenty of competition for places at full-back, with Denzel Dumfries and Federico Valverde seemingly above him in the pecking order.

That has naturally led to links with an exit, as Liverpool has been rumored with interest in a potential return, while other Premier League clubs could be monitoring the situation.

While some reports have stated that Alexander-Arnold is considering his options for an exit, new reports suggest a twist to that stance ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

According to Marca, the defender isn't currently considering a move in the January transfer window, with his full focus set on the coming months at Real Madrid and on trying his best to impress for the rest of the season.

That said, the report claims that things could change in the next two months. If that is the case, Premier League clubs are already lining up for a potential deal this winter, which would see him return to England.

It's unclear what stance Real Madrid would take on such an exit, whether it is possible, and what sort of structure any deal could take. Anything from a permanent transfer to a loan move could be on the cards, though it will depend on both the player and his club agreeing to a move.

Considering the challenges that have come his way so far, it may take a slice of luck for Alexander-Arnold to turn things around at Real Madrid, but his stance of being fully focused shows just how determined he seems to be in turning things around.

There will be plenty of suitors should he leave the Spanish capital, and links with a return to Liverpool come with little surprise. The Reds have largely struggled to replace the defender since his exit, with Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley both failing to grab the right-back shirt as their own.

The recent emergence of Ronald Araujo could end up shutting the door to a return for Alexander-Arnold there, however, with the Barcelona loanee impressing in that role.

While the fanbase is in love with Araujo, and split on a return for Alexander-Arnold, former star Jamie Carragher would like to see the academy graduate back at Anfield. “I’d have him back anyway,” the former Reds defender said on The Overlap Fan Debate.

“Give him plenty of stick... I think he made a mistake, I do. I think he made a big mistake. But, as I said, if something benefits Liverpool Football Club going forward… and we do have, when you think of the problems Liverpool have in terms of the right-back.

"Ronnie (Ronald Araujo) has been fantastic, and I agree with you, but we do have a problem in terms of fullbacks passing. We’ve definitely missed his creativity.”

While Alexander-Arnold has seemingly set a stance against an exit this winter, there is still a chance of a move in the future, with clubs on alert over his ongoing absence in the Real Madrid team.
