The game started slowly, like 12:30 kick-offs tend to do, but it really got lively especially after Harrison Armstrong’s tackle woke everyone up. It got the fans going and injected a bit of tempo in the game.

I think Everton have done really well, they’ve kept Chelsea to a couple of long-range efforts and considering the power and creativity Xabi Alonso’s side have David Moyes' men have done well to nullify them. They can be very pleased with their effort and organisation so far.

I also think the ref has managed the game well and they’ve got all the big decisions right so far, so credit to them. It's nice to see players going into some strong challenges and not trying to stitch each other up as well.

They will all be world class players one day - Morgan Rogers, Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer. And then you add in Moises Caicedo.

They've got some very special individual players. Joao Pedro could easily by top goalscorer, he is such a great player.

If Chelsea get a lot of space they're devastating but I don't think they'll get a lot of space against Everton today.

It was a bleak start to life in the Premier League and English football for Thierno Barry last season - 41 games, six goals.

However, eight games into Everton's 2026-27 campaign and the Toffees forward already has six goals to his name.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat about why he chose to post a video last month, of him breaking down during a private training session, Barry said: "People can say I miss a lot of chances, but I also create a lot of chances.

"Every fan counts on you to score goals, so imagine you didn't score for three months like me [last season] - it's difficult."

Barry has let fans see behind the scenes where he has documented solo training sessions and opened up about the pressure he feels being a Premier League player on his social media accounts.

"This season is more easy to switch because I know I have time on the pitch," said the Frenchman. "I think when I miss that chance, seven minutes later, I'll have another opportunity to score. That's a real pressure.

"When I come to the ball, in my head, it's like time stops."

David Moyes' main centre-forward overcame a four-game dry spell to score two goals in consecutive Premier League matches.

Everton

Everton make two changes from the side who drew 2-2 with Hull.

Vitalii Mykolenko is back from injury and replaces Michael Keane, while Merlin Rohl comes in for Brennan Johnson.

Jarrad Branthwaite, who was a fitness doubt, starts.

Everton XI: Pickford, Maitland-Niles, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Garner, Armstrong, Rohl, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish, Barry.

Subs: Travers, O'Brien, George, Dibling, Johnson, Norgaard, Alcaraz, Hackney, Graham.

Chelsea

Chelsea make just one change following their 5-1 win over Bournemouth with Jorrel Hato replacing Pep Chavarria, who is not in the squad.

Chelsea XI: Martinez, Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill, Neto, Henderson, Caicedo, Hato, Palmer, Rogers, Joao Pedro.

Subs: Penders, Palestra, Fofana, Barco, Welbeck, Quenda, Nicoll-Jazuli, Estevao, Lavia.
