Damien Comolli becomes president of Pisa, Guerin Sportivo reports

Damien Comolli has taken over as president and managing director of Pisa, stepping into Serie B after parting ways with Juventus last June, Guerin Sportivo reported. The appointment marks the end of a ten-year era under the Corrado family, shifting the club’s leadership structure under owner Alexander Knaster.

The transition at Pisa forms one strand of a broader week in Italian sport that also encompasses managerial adjustments at Sampdoria, national gymnastics results, and addressable rumors surrounding coaching futures. For Pisa, the structural pivot brings in an executive whose previous stint in Turin ended amid roster reshaping and a missed Champions League qualification.

Damien Comolli Takes Over Pisa Leadership From the Corrado Family

Alexander Knaster initiated the leadership change after a decade of stewardship by Giuseppe and Giovanni Corrado, according to Padova  Sport. Knaster noted that the club had reached a juncture requiring a fresh development phase, thanking the outgoing executives for serving as the heart and soul of Pisa over the past ten years. PisaToday reported that the Curva Nord ‘Maurizio Alberti’ ultras group marked the departure with a banner reading, 2016-2026. Da quasi morti ‘A’ sani e forti. Grazie famiglia Corrado, acknowledging the club’s climb from near-extinction to Serie B and competitive stability.

Comolli arrives with a three-year contract, stepping directly into the dual roles of president and managing director. Padova Sport added that the remaining 25 percent of club shares will soon transfer entirely to Knaster, consolidating ownership.

Comolli Applies Data Analysis Methods at Juventus

Comolli’s arrival in Serie B follows an annual cycle at Juventus that began in June 2025, when the club appointed him general manager before he assumed the role of managing director that November, replacing Maurizio Scanavino, as detailed by Calciomercato. His tenure in Turin concluded on June 12, when he resigned his positions, paving the way for Juventus to hire Giovanni Carnevali.

During his presentation in Turin, Comolli outlined a methodology centered on data analysis and quantitative modeling similar to methods used in baseball operations, referencing practices highlighted in the film Moneyball. Tuttosport reported his remarks from that introductory press conference: We will use data in different areas, they will help us in the selection of players and will help us define our strategy and we will collect data on everyone. They help us prevent player injuries, conduct business, get to know the fans better, and establish better connections. Calciomercato noted that Juventus ultimately cited a transfer market below expectations—highlighting acquisitions such as Lois Openda and Jonathan David alongside an unsuccessful pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani—alongside friction with manager Luciano Spalletti and the absence of a Champions League finish as factors in the subsequent reorganization.

Broader Developments Across Italian Sport

Alongside the Pisa executive shift, Guerin Sportivo’s weekly review outlined several concurrent sports storylines. The developments include the appointment of Luca D’Angelo to the Sampdoria coaching staff, the Italian gymnastics squad securing a seventh-place finish at the world championships, and responses from various figures regarding ongoing media speculation.
