La Liga is preparing to report an alleged assault on Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, following social media footage from Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona at the Camp Nou. The incident occurred in the 87th minute as players celebrated Kylian Mbappe’s late winning goal, when a supporter appeared to swing a flagpole toward Camavinga near the stands.
Footage circulating online has prompted La Liga to refer the matter directly to its Disciplinary Committee. The confrontation unfolded immediately after Mbappe scored to secure a crucial result for Jose Mourinho’s side. Camavinga created the scoring opportunity by getting past Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi before laying off the decisive pass to his French compatriot.
As Real Madrid players celebrated near the home supporters, video showed an individual swinging a flagpole at Camavinga. Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni intervened during the altercation, pulling his teammates away as crowd hostility intensified. The turmoil also included objects thrown from the spectator areas. Referee Juan Martinez Munuera documented these disturbances in his official match report, noting that a water bottle and a Coca-Cola can were hurled toward the pitch without striking any players.
The thrown objects triggered the Camp Nou’s emergency protocol for crowd disturbances. Stadium staff made a public-address announcement while officials temporarily suspended the match for one minute and 20 seconds. While the referee logged the objects thrown onto the pitch, the alleged flagpole assault came to broader public attention only after video footage spread across social media platforms.
La Liga sources confirmed an intent to bring the case before relevant disciplinary authorities, reiterating the organization’s zero-tolerance stance toward violence and intolerance in Spanish football. Any potential punishment for Barcelona will depend on the formal disciplinary review of the evidence. The controversy threatens to overshadow a monumental result in the domestic championship race, as Mourinho’s squad halted Barcelona’s nine-match winning start and handed their arch-rivals their first domestic defeat of the season.
