Australia captain Isaah Yeo is on the cusp of re-signing with Penrith and Melbourne magic man Cameron Munster will test the market value but both are having fun in the Queensland sun with November 1.
The date has become a hot topic in Kangaroos camp during this World Cup with so many players free agents for 2028 from November 1 including Munster, Yeo, Latrell Mitchell, Jack Bostock, Bradman Best, Liam Martin and Sam Walker.
Munster, with his cheeky humour, ran past Best while he was doing media on Wednesday in Townsville and said, "Parramatta doesn't matter" ahead of Saturday night's clash with Cook Islands.
It was a reference to Best's possible move to the Eels in 2028.
Best has been called "Cash" in jest by teammates and the Newcastle centre has spoken twice in camp about contract talk being through the roof in camp.
Leading figures in the game such as Wayne Bennett have been critical of the NRL's November 1 contracting system. Bennett has called for an official off-season transfer window to be instituted.
When Cameron McInnes was St George-Illawarra captain in 2021 he ruptured an ACL at training just weeks after signing a four-year contract to join Cronulla in 2022.
The ability to sign elsewhere for the 2022 season after November 1, 2020 was a blessing for him.
"That actually helped him so I feel like as a player you have got security and a bigger window," Yeo said, when asked about the current November 1 system.
"As reporters, you should be happy because you are getting plenty of stories and it is chock-a-block at the moment."
Yeo said the November 1 contract circus didn't have to be overwhelming for players.
"I don't think so, as long as you are putting a positive spin on it," he said.
"Whether players are chasing money or a different opportunity I can't really tell you but it is a good opportunity for you to be positive about it."
Yeo has won four titles with Penrith and is on the cusp of inking an extension.
"I am really close," he said.
"All of my energy has gone into this (World Cup) but it is all in the background and hopefully getting sorted out. My priority is to stay at Penrith and we are getting pretty close to that."
Munster may yet remain a one-club man at the Storm but will be a man in demand either way in just a few days.
"I have spoken to the club and my manager. You'd be silly not to go to November 1," Munster said.
"It is (two) days away. I am not saying I am leaving. I've just got to go until November 1 and leave it at that."
Munster said the hype around November 1 was "exciting for the game" and also up for debate.
'"There have probably been a lot of fans kicking cans and saying that (players) need to stay and be loyal to their clubs and vice-versa," he said.
"At the end of the day it is a business too and we as players have to worry about our own backyards. It is the same with the clubs.
"Blokes are feeling the right with the new CBA that they want to go out and see what they are worth. They are not saying they are going to leave."
Munster said the key for all players in the same boat as him was to "play good footy".
"It is not a distraction for the boys in camp," he said.
Yeo said the commentary around November 1 could not be avoided.
"You can shy away from all that stuff that is going on, but you have only got to read your Instagram or the paper," he said.
"It probably helps there are so many boys (in Kangaroos camp) in that position and they can bounce off each other but they have handled it really well."
