Ahead of the Double Gameweek for League One and League Two sides, our Fantasy EFL contributors are back to reveal their teams and plans for the upcoming round.
Here, they talk through their key picks, transfers, captaincy decisions and club selections for Gameweek 10.
Goalkeeper: Julian Eyestone is my preferred option this week. Rotherham have the best double for clean sheet potential on my board, facing Fleetwood away, who haven’t won in five matches, before hosting Newport. I want a goalkeeper with that sort of schedule, and Eyestone looks like the ideal route in.
Defenders: Sonny Aljofree is a bit of a punt, with ownership of just 0.1%. However, he’s cheap, starts regularly and allows me to double up on Rotherham’s defence. One clean sheet could make the move worthwhile, while his points floor also looks decent. Jack Fitzwater is my more reliable defensive pick. Exeter face Colchester away before hosting Crewe, giving them two appealing fixtures. His bonus potential is excellent, while his set-piece threat adds another route to points.
Midfielders: Charlie Lakin is one of the standout options on my board. Barnet are unbeaten in five matches, while Lakin averages more than 10 points per game. He takes corners and free kicks, giving him several routes to points. Fixtures against Tranmere and Swindon, who haven’t won in five, only strengthen his appeal. Oliver Norwood also offers plenty of consistency through penalties and set pieces. Stockport host Bromley first, who have conceded a league-high 20 goals, making Norwood an ideal pick to balance the team. Finally, Alex Newby gets my captaincy this week. It’s a slight gamble, considering his ownership sits at just 7%, but he’s already scored six goals. York face Newport, who have scored 13 goals from 8.9 xG, before hosting Accrington. I expect that overperformance to catch up with Newport eventually. Newby plays a major role in York’s attack, making him an appealing differential captain.
Forwards: Jack Marriott is my vice-captain. Reading have the strongest attacking projections on my board, while Wigan have already conceded 13 goals. Marriott has eight goals this season and averages 11.4 points per game. Lewis Wing takes penalties, but Marriott remains their main finisher. I fancy him to score across the double.
Club picks: Reading and Sheffield Wednesday. Reading are my first choice, having scored 22 goals already this season. They also top my projected goals rankings, with Wigan and Leyton Orient providing two appealing fixtures. Sheffield Wednesday offer a more reliable defensive option. They’ve conceded just eight goals all season, and fixtures against Wimbledon and Notts County look promising. Reading provide the attacking ceiling, while Wednesday offer a solid points floor.
As always, my team remains subject to change once the starting lineups come out.
An exciting Double Gameweek awaits, with plenty of options to consider. In goal, I’m backing Jon McCracken and Bradford City. They’ve conceded the fewest goals in the league and face two favourable fixtures against teams that have struggled in attack. That gives McCracken a great opportunity to deliver defensive returns.
In defence, Jack Fitzwater is the obvious pick. His excellent bonus-point potential and goal threat make him difficult to overlook, especially with two appealing fixtures. Alongside him, Adam Senior offers more of an attacking punt. Barnet also face two sides that haven’t created much going forward, which adds to his clean sheet potential.
Oliver Norwood should continue to tick along nicely in midfield. He’s on penalties and offers a reliable route to points through his all-round involvement. Meanwhile, Charlie Lakin has excellent fixtures and plays in a Barnet attack that is performing brilliantly. Their recent form makes him another standout option this week.
Up front, I’m backing Stockport’s Kyle Wootton, who ranks inside the top three for expected goals (xG). His opening fixture against Bromley looks particularly appealing, with the visitors conceding more goals than anyone else in the division. Joe Taylor is also a great differential punt. Peterborough rank among the bottom four for non-penalty expected goals conceded (npxGC) and shots on target conceded, making that fixture especially attractive.
For my club picks, I’m backing Stockport County and Barnet. Both sides have excellent Double Gameweek fixtures and offer plenty of potential for strong returns.
In goal, Jed Ward looks like a decent option this week, with Swindon away and Oldham at home giving him two opportunities to pick up points. I’m hoping he can make a few important saves and potentially secure a clean sheet along the way.
Jack Fitzwater is someone I really like again this week. Colchester away could prove tricky, but Crewe at home looks much more appealing. His excellent bonus-point potential gives him another route to returns, so I’m backing him to deliver a solid score.
Another interesting defensive pick is Liam Cooper, with Sheffield Wednesday hosting Wimbledon before travelling to Notts County. Two fixtures provide plenty of opportunities for defensive returns, and I’m hoping he can make the most of them.
In midfield, Cameron Brannagan is one of my key selections this week. Oxford face Manchester away before hosting Wigan, giving him two opportunities to deliver. His all-round involvement makes him appealing, and I’m trusting him to produce a strong return as my vice-captain.
Oliver Norwood is another player I’m happy to include. Stockport host Bromley before travelling to Doncaster, with the opening fixture looking particularly promising. His influence in midfield and bonus-point potential make him a reliable option across the double.
Captaincy goes to Kabongo Tshimanga this week. Barnet face Tranmere away before hosting Swindon, giving him two opportunities to get on the scoresheet. I’m backing him to deliver, and a goal in either fixture could make him a huge difference-maker.
I’m also keeping faith in Jamal Lowe, who faces Wimbledon at home before travelling to Notts County. Both fixtures provide opportunities for attacking returns, and I’m hoping he can get into dangerous positions and turn those chances into valuable points.
For my first club pick, I’ve gone with Oxford United. They face Manchester away before hosting Wigan, with the opening fixture looking particularly difficult. However, I like their chances of securing a positive result in the second match.
Sheffield Wednesday are my other club selection this week. Wimbledon at home offers a good opportunity to deliver a strong performance before a tougher trip to Notts County. I’m hoping they can take advantage of playing at home and secure a positive result.
Overall, there’s plenty to like about this team. The double fixtures provide opportunities throughout the squad, while Tshimanga and Brannagan lead the captaincy options. There’s also plenty of bonus-point potential, making this a promising week. Hopefully, the players can deliver!
