Five things to know about Oklahoma State before Colorado's Week 8 game

Colorado visits Oklahoma State on Saturday, Oct. 24, facing a Cowboys program that has changed substantially since the Buffaloes' 52-0 victory in 2024.

Oklahoma State enters at 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play. Colorado is 2-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. MT on FS1 at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Here are five things to know about the Cowboys.

1. Homecoming game is sold out

Oklahoma State returned to a full Boone Pickens Stadium in 2021, which will benefit the school's financial picture for the 2022 fiscal year.

Oklahoma State has sold out its 105th homecoming game, which marks Colorado's first trip to Stillwater since 2009. The Cowboys have won seven of their past 10 homecoming games and are 58-40-6 overall in those contests.

2. Eric Morris leads a rebuilt roster

Morris is in his first season as head coach after spending three seasons at North Texas. Oklahoma State lists 91 newcomers on its 115-player roster, including 66 transfers. The Cowboys describe that newcomer total as the largest in major college football history.

The changes have produced immediate results, including a victory over then-No. 6 Oregon in Oklahoma State's second game.

3. Drew Mestemaker directs a productive offense

Oklahoma State ranks fourth nationally in passing offense and fifth in total offense. Mestemaker averages 323.3 passing yards per game, ranking second nationally, and has surpassed 300 yards in five consecutive outings.

Receiver Wyatt Young averages 93.5 receiving yards per game, while running back Caleb Hawkins averages 98.7 rushing yards per game. Talk about a lot of offense to handle. The Buffaloes will have their hands full.

4. The Cowboys are coming off a narrow loss to Houston

Oklahoma State lost 35-32 at No. 20 Houston on Oct. 17 after trailing 14-3 at halftime. Mestemaker threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns, while Hawkins added a career-high 125 receiving yards.

The Cowboys committed two turnovers and a season-high nine penalties in the defeat.

5. Colorado leads the series

Colorado holds a 27-20-1 advantage in Oklahoma State's records, including a 12-11-1 mark in Stillwater. The Cowboys have won three of the past four meetings, including the most recent matchup, a 52-0 win at Folsom Field in 2024.
