'Love this club': DCE open to coaching Roosters one day

If his defection from Manly after 15 seasons wasn't bad enough for Sea Eagles fans, let alone winning a premiership with the Sydney Roosters, now Daly Cherry-Evans has revealed his ambition to one day coach at the Tricolours.

While all but ruling out playing one more season in 2027 as the Roosters prepare for life without Sam Walker, Cherry-Evans says he's open to return to the club in any other capacity following a stint in the English Super League.

"I don't know what I want to do, if I'm completely honest. But if the opportunity to come back here and help out was on the table, I'd certainly love to do that," the champion playmaker said after launching a specially designed range of VB premiership cans at Easts Leagues Club.

"This club, while it was only a very short-lived experience, holds a very special place in my heart.

"So, yeah, if I can come back and help in some way, that would be great. It's a great club. I love this club."

After a decorated 16-season NRL career, featuring two premierships, 26 games for Queensland, six State of Origin series wins - including four as captain - and 21 Tests for Australia, Cherry-Evans has signed a one-year deal with Hull Kingston Rovers.

"I'll be heading over in another month or so, just confirming dates now with the coach," the 37-year-old said.

"But I'll go before Christmas and get some pre-season done and meet my new teammates and get to understand the area of Hull. I'm really looking forward to it."

But the veteran does admit uprooting his wife Vessa and three children from their luxurious life on Sydney's northern beaches is a bit of a drag.

"There's a real human side to athletes, and with the change of job you've got to pack your house up," Cherry-Evans said.

"So the wife and I have been doing our best to get as much done as possible. It's been a very humbling experience winning the premiership to filling up a skip bin with rubbish."
