Vidarbha eye hat-trick of wins

Vidarbha began their campaign with a victory over Puducherry in Nagpur. Captain Akshay Wadkar produced a magnificent batting performance, scoring 198 runs in the first innings, while Yash Rathod contributed 134. Their outstanding efforts helped Vidarbha defeat Puducherry by 160 runs and secure full points.

In their second match, Vidarbha defeated Jammu and Kashmir by three wickets on the latter’s home ground. However, it was far from an easy contest, with the team facing the threat of defeat at one stage. Opening batter Ravikumar Samarth rose to the occasion, scoring 143 runs in the first innings to strengthen Vidarbha’s position. With the ball, Nachiket Bhute claimed eight wickets across both innings, playing a crucial role in the victory. The thrilling win also demonstrated Vidarbha’s ability to compete under pressure.

Batting and Bowling Units Expected to Deliver Again

Vidarbha will once again rely on their key batters and bowlers against Goa. Akshay Wadkar and Yash Rathod demonstrated their ability to score big in the opening match, while Ravikumar Samarth took responsibility in challenging circumstances. Meanwhile, Nachiket Bhute played a decisive role with the ball against Jammu and Kashmir.

Vidarbha will aim to post a substantial first-innings total, giving their bowlers a strong platform to put the opposition under pressure. The team will also need to maintain consistency throughout the match to ensure that they can secure victory even in closely contested situations.

Improving position in points table a key challenge

Despite winning their first two matches, Vidarbha are placed third in the Elite Group A points table. They have missed out on the top position due to an inferior net run rate. Vidarbha have 12 points, while Baroda lead the table with 14 points, followed by Uttar Pradesh in second place with 13. The match against Goa is therefore not just an opportunity for Vidarbha to register their third consecutive win, but also a chance to improve their standing in the points table. The team will aim to deliver a strong performance, secure full points and improve their net run rate. Although Vidarbha are considered favourites in home conditions, they will be wary of underestimating Goa.
