Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 to Arsenal, but once again there were positives for Oliver Glasner to cling on to.
The Reds lost the game in the 80th minute when Noni Madueke scored a deflected effort. It means a third straight loss for Forest, with Glasner now desperate to get points on the board at Ipswich on Friday night.
Glasner’s 3-4-2-1 system might take some time to work out. However, given what he’s achieved in the game in recent times, the prospects of him getting time to turn things around are very high after the debacle of last season.
Troy Deeney criticised Liam Delap for his efforts against Arsenal. Although he wasn’t too bad during the contest, Deeney thinks he has a lot to learn, and the same can’t be said about one of his Forest teammates.
Diomande has taken a little bit of time to get going following his £40 million arrival from Sporting CP. He arrived ahead of the season, but after heading to the World Cup with Ivory Coast, he took some time to get up to full fitness.
On Sunday, he was largely very impressive. Glasner tasked him with playing alongside Murillo and Jair Cunha, and for large parts of the contest, Forest competed and on another day might have taken at the very least a point against Arsenal.
Diomande has looked impressive in most of the games which he’s played so far. Here, however, he went up a level and ensured that the likes of Eberechi Eze and Kai Havertz had minimal impact for the champions.
Diomande is yet to play a game where he’s been on the pitch at the start with both Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic. Perhaps that is the next port of call for Glasner, and it will be fascinating to see what he can achieve once he starts to do that.
According to Who Scored, Diomande was among the best defenders statistically on the pitch. He made a last-ditch tackle too, which stopped Viktor Gyokeres from having a relatively easy chance to score.

Diomande will now feel that the shirt is his to lose in the Forest back three. The Ivorian is starting to look the part with each performance, and defensively the Reds were largely sound at the weekend.
Glasner will want to avoid messing about too much with his defensive unit as he goes in search of the winning formula, and Diomande already feels like a very useful signing made in the summer by Forest.
