Alisson Becker has described the "pleasure" he's felt playing a key role in Liverpool's modern history after being named among the club's 100 greatest players of all time.

The goalkeeper was named alongside other stars in the current squad, such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister for a new book being published in celebration of those 100 nominated players.

Alisson, 34, joined Liverpool back in 2018 from AS Roma, with the club paying a fee worth roughly $89 million to bring him to Merseyside under Jurgen Klopp.

The Brazilian was one of the final pieces of the puzzle - alongside Van Dijk - for the German head coach, who had a lethal attack and a hard-working midfield at his disposal, while needing an iron-clad defense to truly cement its place as one of the greatest teams the Premier League has ever seen.

In the eight years since his arrival, Alisson has played 341 times, keeping 140 clean sheets and scoring one very memorable goal in the 2020/21 season.

In that time, he has cemented his place as one of the best shot-stoppers around. His ability to play as a sweeper-keeper, someone who knows how to close down the opposition in a one-on-one chance, was what truly defined his ability in a team that was built on pressing, which was susceptible to counter-attacks as a result.

With two Premier League titles, two EFL Cups, a Champions League, an FA Cup, and a Club World Cup on his CV from his time at Anfield, it has been nothing short of a successful spell.

That has managed to land him in the book titled 'Liverpool's Greatest: A Celebration of 100 Reds Stars', which had him as 16th in the list. It was something that Alisson was delighted with, as he told the official Liverpool social media team: "Thank you so much. It feels great.

"So many top players you can see; being part of the history of this club is a pleasure. There’s no way this list can be fair because there’s so much quality, so many achievements between the players.

"The contemporary players, but also the players from the past as well, so much history. It feels great. A guy from far away, from Novo Hamburgo, being in this list is some achievement. Thank you so much.”

It was a place in the list that seals Alisson's legacy as one of the best that has ever been at Liverpool, while his teammates like Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are among those to rank even higher than 16th.

It remains to be seen how much more the goalkeeper can do to write yet more chapters in his story with the Reds, though time may be running out for him to do so.

With a contract that runs until the end of this season, it's unclear whether the Brazilian shot-stopper will stay at Anfield or decide to call time on his career with the club after nine years. Until next summer, when a decision will have to be made, fans will be loving every minute of seeing a modern-day legend step out onto the pitch.
