Fantasy EFL Gameweek 12: Expert team reveals

Ahead of the Double Gameweek, our Fantasy EFL contributors are back to reveal their teams and plans for the upcoming round.

Here, they talk through their key picks, transfers, captaincy decisions and club selections for Gameweek 12.

Fantasy EFL 12 Gameweek
  • Goalkeeper – James Beadle: Birmingham face Lincoln City away before hosting Millwall, giving them two opportunities for a clean sheet. I give them a 53.5% chance of keeping at least one across the Double Gameweek, making Beadle an appealing option. His 72.1% save percentage and +3.0 goals prevented also highlight his individual performances. I’m not expecting two clean sheets, but the combination of fixtures and save potential makes him my preferred goalkeeper.
  • Defenders – Phil Neumann and Konstantinos Mavropanos: I’m doubling up on Birmingham’s defence with Neumann, who has the highest projected points of any defender in my team. His defensive contributions offer another route to points, while two goals and two assists show his attacking potential. If Birmingham keep a clean sheet, both selections should benefit, although I’m aware that doubling up increases the risk. Alongside him, Mavropanos faces West Bromwich Albion at home and Cardiff City away. I give West Ham a 50.1% chance of keeping at least one clean sheet, while his five goals provide additional attacking upside.
  • Midfielders – Amario Cozier-Duberry and Jon Russell: Middlesbrough are my favourite attacking side this week, with home and away fixtures against Charlton Athletic and Wrexham respectively. I project 4.19 goals across those matches, while their 27 non-penalty goals from 26.3 nPxG suggest their attacking returns are sustainable. Cozier-Duberry has contributed three goals and five assists, making him an attractive option at just 0.8% ownership. Russell also appeals as Mansfield face Notts County at home and Wigan Athletic away. They’re unbeaten in five matches, winning three, while Russell has registered three goals, three assists and 17 chances created. His ball-winning ability offers another route to points, and ownership of just 0.1% makes him an excellent differential.
  • Forwards – Will Lankshear (captain) and Jarrod Bowen (vice-captain): Lankshear tops my projections, although Russell and Cozier-Duberry aren’t far behind. His 11 goals make him the main finishing threat in a Middlesbrough side averaging 2.19 non-penalty xG per match. Charlton at home looks particularly appealing, with Wrexham away offering another opportunity. I’d rather captain the main goalscorer in my favourite attack than overcomplicate the decision. Bowen takes the vice-captaincy as West Ham face West Brom and Cardiff. I project 4.19 goals for the Hammers across those fixtures, while Bowen has six goals, six assists and 34 chances created. West Ham have outperformed their underlying attacking numbers, but Bowen’s involvement makes him difficult to overlook.
  • Club picks – West Ham United and Middlesbrough: I’m backing West Ham alongside Bowen and Mavropanos, with their fixtures offering plenty of attacking potential and a reasonable clean-sheet opportunity. Their projected club value of 12.25 is almost identical to Middlesbrough’s 12.29, which tops my projections. Boro have the strongest underlying attack in the Championship, and their fixtures against Charlton and Wrexham make them particularly appealing. However, they’ve kept just two clean sheets in 12 matches, so I’m backing their goalscoring potential and chances of winning rather than defensive security. With Lankshear captained and Cozier-Duberry also in my team, I’m deliberately concentrating on Middlesbrough this week.
  • As always, my team remains subject to change once we see the starting line-ups.
Fantasy EFL 12 Gameweek
  • Defence looks almost impossible to navigate this week, so I’m happy to take a punt on the Millwall double-up of Caleb Taylor and Jake Cooper. Both offer goal threat and bonus-point potential, so hopefully they can keep at least one clean sheet across their two fixtures. In goal, I’ve gone with Lawrence Vigouroux. Swansea’s defence has been massively underrated, as they don’t concede many chances and have two good fixtures this week.
  • Amario Cozier-Duberry feels like an easy pick. He plays in a strong Middlesbrough attack and has two favourable fixtures, giving him plenty of attacking upside. Jon Russell is another player I really like, especially if he continues in the same central role. Mansfield are playing well and have two good fixtures, so he’ll be a lock for me if his position remains unchanged.
  • The forward line almost picks itself, with Will Lankshear and Jarrod Bowen both offering huge potential. Lankshear is the best striker in the league for me and plays in the strongest attack. Bowen also looks like an obvious pick, with penalty duties and corners from one side adding to his appeal. Captaincy is difficult to call between the two, but Bowen’s penalties just give him the edge. Lankshear takes the vice-captaincy.
  • Middlesbrough are an absolute lock for my first club pick. I’ve already used two of my five West Ham selections, so I’d rather save the remaining opportunities for another Gameweek. Instead, I’m backing Mansfield Town, a side I rate highly who also have two good fixtures this week.
  • In goal, I’m sticking with James Beadle this week. Birmingham’s opening fixture away at Lincoln could prove tricky, but I particularly like their chances against Millwall at home. If they can keep things tight defensively, Beadle could deliver a decent points return across the two matches.
  • Janoi Donacien is one defender I’m particularly interested in this week. Accrington away followed by Oldham at home gives him two opportunities to deliver defensive returns. I’ve also handed him the vice-captaincy, as I think he could quietly enjoy a very productive Gameweek. Alongside him, I’m backing Japhet Tanganga, who faces Wrexham at home before travelling to Preston. The opening fixture looks like a decent clean-sheet opportunity, although the trip to Preston could prove tougher. Hopefully, Tanganga can make an impact at both ends of the pitch.
  • In midfield, Ethan Galbraith has two fixtures that could provide opportunities for points. Preston at home looks promising, while Blackburn away gives him another chance to contribute. I’m hoping he can produce two solid performances. Siriki Dembélé is my more exciting midfield selection. Barnsley away won’t be straightforward, but I particularly like his chances against Reading at home. He has the ability to produce something special, and hopefully this is the week he delivers.
  • Up front, I’ve gone with Will Lankshear and Jarrod Bowen. Lankshear faces Charlton at home before travelling to Wrexham, giving him two good opportunities to get amongst the goals. If he can find the net in either match, I’ll be happy with that. Bowen takes the captain’s armband, as I’m expecting him to make the difference this week. West Brom at home looks particularly appealing, while Cardiff away provides another opportunity for a big return. Hopefully, he can reward my faith with a strong Double Gameweek score.
  • For my club picks, I’m backing Birmingham City and West Ham United. Birmingham’s trip to Lincoln won’t be easy, but their home fixture against Millwall makes them an appealing option. I’m hoping they can secure positive results across both matches. West Ham also have two promising fixtures, starting with West Brom at home. Cardiff away could prove more difficult, but I think they have enough quality to make this a successful Double Gameweek.
Fantasy EFL 12 Gameweek
  • This is probably the only Gameweek where I’m struggling to find differentials I really like. I usually try to include one or two each week, but very few stand out this time. Defence is probably the best place to go against the crowd, with Millwall players among the alternatives I’m considering.
  • Outside of defence, I can’t look past Jarrod Bowen, Will Lankshear, Jon Russell and Amario Cozier-Duberry. All four are excellent options this week, and I don’t see much reason to move away from them.
  • For my club picks, I believe Middlesbrough and Mansfield Town are the strongest options. Both have favourable fixtures, so I’m happy to back them rather than take unnecessary risks.
  • The one differential who has caught my eye is Andri Guðjohnsen. He’s been excellent recently and has two good fixtures, making him an interesting option. However, dropping either Lankshear or Bowen to accommodate him feels like a difficult decision to justify.
  • I’ll keep looking for potential differentials in the build-up to the deadline, but at the moment, I’m happy to stick with the more obvious selections.
