Report: WWE pitching revival of Sin Cara character

PWInsider Elite has reported that WWE has floated the idea of reviving the Sin Cara character, with early pitches potentially marking a return for the gimmick that was last seen in 2019.

Sin Cara made his WWE debut in 2011, when he was portrayed by the man renowned in Mexico and elsewhere as Mistico.

The gimmick was taken over by Hunico due to a 30-day suspension under the company’s Talent Wellness Program.

Upon the original Sin Cara’s return to action, a feud between the characters (named Sin Cara Azul and Sin Cara Negro) culminated in a Mask vs. Mask match at the October 16, 2011 WWE SmackDown taping in Mexico City, won by the man named “Azul” for the feud.

Upon Mistico’s release in 2014, Hunico once again took on the Sin Cara moniker and later formed the Lucha Dragons with Kalisto, which at one stage expanded to the Lucha House Party alongside Gran Metalik.

Hunico was granted his release from the company in December 2019.
