Manchester United lineup vs. Como: Projected XI, injury news for Champions League match

Facing an injury crisis, Manchester United travels to Italy to take on Como in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday Oct. 21.

The Red Devils are in a poor run of form with no wins in their last six games and just two wins all season.

That has increased the pressure on manager Michael Carrick, who will be missing nine first-team players for the match at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Here is how Manchester United could line up against Como:

Manchester United projected lineup vs. Como

Manchester United coach Michael Carrick could be tempted to give 19-year-old left back Harry Amass his first Champions League start, moving Noussair Mazraoui to center back with so many injured players.

The options in attack look more promising, where regulars like Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are available to take their usual starting positions.

Manchester United injury news vs. Como

United will be without nine first-team players, with eight injured and Leny Yoro suspended after picking up a red card in last week's defeat to Atlético Madrid.

Manuel Ugarte, Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Šeško are long-term absentees.

Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez are both out after featuring against Leeds at the weekend, while Ayden Heaven is out with illness.

Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo are also both out as they continue to battle recent injuries.

"Kobbie, we're probably looking at another maybe 10 days or so, but not exact. Luke a little bit longer than that," Carrick said.

Will Matthijs de Ligt play vs. Como?

With so many injured players, Carrick could be tempted to give Dutch center back Matthijs de Ligt his first minutes in 11 months.

De Ligt has returned from a long-term back injury and subsequent surgery, making the bench for United's past two games but not seeing the field.

The 27-year-old has traveled with the United squad to Italy and could play his first minutes since November 2025 against Como.

"It's great to have him back," Carrick said of De Ligt. "He's had such a long journey of maybe 11 months or so of being out, being patient, worked hard. We're delighted to have him back. He's fit, he's ready, he's been training for a number of weeks now, so he's in a really good place."
