The FIA have confirmed Red Bull star Isack Hadjar has received a formal warning after he shoved a fan in the F1 paddock at this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix.
The incident in question occurred on Friday afternoon as Hadjar approached the Red Bull garage ahead of FP1, with the fan attempting to put his arm around the Frenchman and take a selfie.
Hadjar did not take too kindly to this, shoving the fan in their side before pushing them away once again. After the shove, the Red Bull star looked around in disgust.
F1 fans have been divided on the matter online, with some feeling that Hadjar had every right to protect his personal space, while others felt the Red Bull star did not need to be quite as aggressive.
Either way, the stewards thought it serious enough to summon Hadjar to see them ahead of FP3 on Saturday morning.
As a result of that summons, the race stewards have given Hadjar a formal warning, the FIA has confirmed.
Other than deciding that Hadjar had done no wrong, a formal warning is the mildest form of intervention the stewards could have imposed, and it falls short of a reprimand.
Explaining their decision, the stewards said that Hadjar had breached the regulations, but outlined several mitigating factors for his actions.
"The driver stated that he was running late for FP1 and had stopped to have a photograph with a young fan, when he was approached by a paddock guest in an aggressive manner. One security person was walking behind him and was unable to intervene and prevent what was tantamount to an invasion of the driver’s private space," the stewards said.
"The driver initially resisted the move by placing his hand on the waist of the guest, holding him at bay, then the driver pushed him aside with his open right hand.
"This latter action by the driver is regarded as a breach of the regulations however, in mitigation of penalty, the stewards considered the following matters (in accordance with the guidelines provided in Appendix B of the FIA International Sporting Code):
Hadjar was the third Red Bull-affiliated driver in the stewards' room already this weekend, with Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson having also been handed penalties after their scuffle in FP2.
