The in-ring future of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been a recurring topic of conversation in recent years, with matches against Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes both on the table at one point. As of 2026, though, neither singles match has yet to materialize.

According to Rhodes, hope for his dream clash might not be lost as he believes there is still some gas left in the WWE legend's tank.

"It's not that I'm evading that answer. It's that I don't really know how to answer because I think personally he has a couple of matches probably left to do," Rhodes told "Insight With Chris Van Vliet" when asked about a potential singles bout against The Rock. "I think that personally, but I also know looking at WrestleMania 40, and another guy who he's given all, continues to give all as part of the board, he could easily say that was a great final piece as a performer in a wrestling ring. That'll be up to him. That'll certainly be up to him if there's more and what those matches might be. I don't think any wrestler would ever look you in the eye and tell you they wouldn't want a match like that."

The Rock, now 54, last competed on night one of WrestleMania 40, where a tag match pitted him and Reigns against Rhodes and Seth Rollins. "The Final Boss" pinned Rhodes to secure victory for his team and the added stipulation of Bloodline Rules for the following night's Undisputed WWE Championship main event.

At the time, The Rock suggested that more in-ring outings might be in store for him. Two-and-a-half years later, none have occurred; he has, however, appeared in additional storylines involving The Bloodline and Rhodes, the latter of which resulted in John Cena's famous heel turn at Elimination Chamber 2025.
