AFC playoff picture: Ravens fall outside top seven despite 4-2 record

The Ravens have the same record as five teams currently occupying AFC playoff positions. Entering Week 7, Baltimore is the one sitting outside the field.

The NFL’s conference standings place the Ravens eighth at 4-2 following their 13-10 loss to Cleveland. Pittsburgh holds the seventh and final postseason position, while the Browns have moved into the AFC North lead and the conference’s No. 4 seed.

Current positioning entering Week 7.

Kansas City remains unbeaten and holds the top position, with Buffalo close behind at 5-1. The congestion begins immediately below them: Jacksonville, Cleveland, New England, Denver, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore are all 4-2.

For the Ravens, Baltimore’s loss to Cleveland affected both the division race and its place in the conference.

The Ravens’ 2-1 AFC record doesn't automatically put them ahead of Pittsburgh, which is 2-2 against conference opponents. NFL wild-card procedures first apply division tiebreakers to rank tied teams within the same division before comparing teams across divisions. If the postseason began today, Pittsburgh would visit Buffalo, Denver would travel to Jacksonville, and New England would play at Cleveland. Kansas City would receive the first-round bye.

Baltimore remains close enough to change that picture quickly. The Ravens are tied by record with the AFC’s third seed and have 11 games remaining. But Cleveland’s win exposed the stakes of the coming weeks. Baltimore is competing for a division title while also navigating a wild-card race that currently leaves a 4-2 team without a spot.
