Malo Gusto and Chelsea had a disappointing night at Anfield after losing to Liverpool on penalties in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea initially took the lead in the first half after Morgan Rogers scored from the spot. However, Wesley Fofana gave away a penalty shortly after, which Cody Gakpo managed to convert.

Fofana really had a game to forget after missing the decisive spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out, with Liverpool winning 6-5. All in all, it was a bad night for him and his compatriot Gusto.

Gusto did not get a chance to take a penalty. The full-back was substituted in the second half, much to the delight of Chelsea’s travelling supporters.

There was a big cheer from the away end when Gusto was withdrawn, according to journalist Bobby Vincent. The 23-year-old is not the most popular player at Chelsea right now as he struggles for form.

Xabi Alonso has failed to get the best out of Gusto this season after trying the Frenchman in various positions. At Anfield, Gusto started at left-back, but the France international has also played in midfield.

There are rumours that Gusto could leave Chelsea in January, with the former Lyon man not an automatic starter at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool are actually one club who are reportedly interested in Gusto.

Gusto impressed in his debut season at Chelsea, but he has really been on the decline of late. With that in mind, now could be a good time to sell him.
