Aston Villa v Fulham

Emersonn twists and turns to get into the Hull City penalty area after a nudge in the back from Nobel Mendy.

Mendy was lucky to not concede a penalty in the first half and is fortunate again. Hull are sitting on 32% of the ball but are still in this.

Emersonn then has a shooting chance but fires just wide of the post. Will Ipswich regret failing to put this game away?

Nikola Milenkovic seems to have been seriously rattled by the own goal.

The Serbian gave away a free kick in a dangerous area just minutes later.

Fortunately for him, Mathias Jensen clipped the crossbar after doing brilliantly to get it up and over the Forest wall from the edge of the box. A fraction away from a Brentford second.

Half time probably came at a good time for the defender; a moment to regroup.

After 37 minutes of not getting very close to the Ipswich goal, Hull get a corner and Town's Abdoul Ouattara has a wild swipe at the ball and is very relieved to see it slash wide.

From the next corner, Town goalkeeper Christian Walton comes for the ball and gets nowhere near it, but Ipswich knock it behind for a third successive Hull corner.

This time Ipswich striker Emersonn does well to head powerfully away at the near post. Better from the hosts.

Leeds United's James Trafford and Nico Elvedi react

I don't know what James Trafford is doing. I'm a big fan of the build-up, but that's not it when you pass straight to a Bournemouth player.

It's the easiest goal they've scored this season. Trafford has had a shocker.

It's been a good period for Leeds and then to lose a goal like that, it's disappointing for Leeds.

Two promoted sides that have made solid starts to life back in the Premier League meet at the MKM Stadium today.

Yes, there is still a long way to go, but both Hull and Ipswich would have been targeting survival as their main ambition this season.

When you consider Sunderland's struggles, Crystal Palace's problems and how Forest are floundering, both sets of supporters may be feeling quietly confident that they have already gained enough traction to stay up.

Add to that the mess Manchester United are in at the moment, and the fact that we still await the outcome of Manchester City's guilty verdict, the signs look good for both teams. Three points for either side would be huge for their respective causes.

Michael Carrick, Manager of Manchester United, applauds the fans

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick, speaking to TNT Sports: "We didn't come out, and didn't get going in the second half.

"Half-time we could have and should have been up. Everything was positive as we hoped for.

"We could have made more chances. We looked in a good place and then found a way of unravelling the second half. A bad way to concede, penalty, and then we were right up against it at that moment. It turned right on its head.

"There is no hiding from the fact that we haven't won enough games. The boys were in a good place in the first half.

"I think we didn't start the second half particularly great. A bit scrappy and we didn't get going. They made first blow in the second half and in the end that goes on to be the difference."

On Lisandro Martinez red card: "I have not looked at it to be honest. I have not seen it."

On feeling let down by Martinez?: "No."

On the fans: "There is a lot of emotion, we're a great football club, and we want to win football matches. The supporters come, make a lot of effort, pay a lot of money to watch us play. You can see from today the boys had the game in the right place and things have gone against us.

"Things have gone against us, and gone against us in a big way. Unravelled quickly. A lot of emotion right now.

"We have got to move forward and take the things that worked for us today. A lot of the good things, especially in the first half and use that moving forward.

Does he think he will be in charge of the next game? "Yes."

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick says ‘hard conversations’ are needed sometimes for any team to reach its optimum level.

United seem to have been in chaos since Lisandro Martinez spoke out against the club’s recruitment strategy following the 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

The 4-1 defeat to Como, followed by a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth have left Carrick hanging to his job by a thread.

The United boss held clear-the-air talks with skipper Bruno Fernandes on Wednesday, and he must hope his side deliver a winning performance at Stamford Bridge which would end their eight-match run without a win.

Carrick tried to portray a ‘business as usual’ stance in his news conference on Thursday but he accepts life cannot always be easy.

“It's pretty clear,” he said. “It's not always rosy and nice conversations between anyone, whether that's between me and the players, between me, (director of football) Jason (Wilcox) or (chief executive) Omar (Berrada) or the owners.

“It's the truth, it's the hard truth at times and it's what we need to move forward.”

I think Chelsea have left themselves short with two centre forwards, if you look over and there's not a centre forward on the bench it's not good.

With all the money they've spent, they're still short.

Manchester United must stay focused here.

They are playing well, they have had chances, they thought they were ahead but they are not.

They cannot take their foot off the gas and they cannot afford to get disheartened.

Bruno Fernandes could not have wished for a better opportunity than that.

Bryan Mbeumo's pass from the touchline was perfect.

Fernandes controlled and while he was running at pace, a player of his ability should be able to control his shot.

Sadly for Manchester United it was way off target. Michael Carrick talks about fine margins. How important a goal that would have been.

There are chants of "Steve-o", the nickname of Estevao Willian among the Chelsea faithful at Stamford Bridge.

The young attacker is hugely popular with supporters here, and his omission from Chelsea's line-ups under Xabi Alonso has been a source of criticism for the new manager.

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has not come out for the warm-ups, but his assistant Steve Holland is looking across the pitch from the touchline.

Holland is back on familiar territory, having worked at Chelsea for eight years across a variety of roles before departing in 2017 to work with Gareth Southgate and the England team.

The 56-year-old was viewed as an astute appointment to Carrick's backroom team last season when United surged into third place and secured a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence.

Now, questions are being asked of Holland, given United's inability to control games.

Estevao comes in for his first Premier League start of the season as Xabi Alonso makes four changes to the Chelsea XI that started Wednesday's EFL Cup loss at Liverpool.

The Brazilian winger comes in alongside defenders Levi Colwill and Marco Palestra, while Cole Palmer returns after suspension.

Malo Gusto and Danny Welbeck drop to the bench, Maxence Lacroix is out with a hamstring injury suffered at Anfield and Jordan Henderson is a surprise absentee from the squad.

Chelsea: Penders; Acheampong, Fofana, Colwill, Palestra; Caicedo, Lavia; Estevao, Palmer, Neto; Rogers.

Subs: Sharman-Lowe, Barco, Welbeck, Emegha, Quenda, Gusto, Chavarria, Nicoll-Jazuli, Subuloye.

Chelsea lineup

Bruno Fernandes comes back to captain Manchester United after being dropped for last weekend's home defeat by Bournemouth.

That's one of three changes made by Michael Carrick with Lisandro Martinez and Matheus Cunha also brought in to start.

Ayden Heaven, Mason Mount and Youri Tielemens have to settle for a place among the substitutes, while Kobbie Mainoo is also on the bench after missing United last four games through injury.

Manchester United: Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot; Santos, Baleba; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo.

Subs: Darlow, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Mount, Zirkzee, Tielemens, Heaven, Lacey, Mainoo.
