Kyle Whittingham Addresses Potential Coaching Change After Indiana Loss
Caleb Williams Lands On Cover Of Madden NFL 27

Michigan's 13-6 overtime defeat to No. 6 Indiana on Saturday marked another frustrating loss for the Wolverines this season.

The defense did its job, holding the Hoosiers to just 212 total yards and no touchdowns until overtime. But Michigan's offense still couldn't do enough to get the win. The Wolverines went scoreless in the first half, managed just 57 total rushing yards, and finished with just six points despite reaching the red zone four times.

Michigan has now lost three of its last four games, all to Big Ten opponents, currently sitting 4-3 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. But head coach Kyle Whittingham apparently still isn't ready to make a coaching change, even with frustration growing around the Wolverines' offense and offensive coordinator Jason Beck.

"Now's the time of year where, you know, you're seeing head coaches lose their jobs, play callers being demoted," Whittingham said Monday. " I don't think it's time to panic. We're a play away from being 6-1 or 7-0."

Whittingham arrived in Ann Arbor at the end of last season after spending more than two decades as Utah's head coach. He built the Utes into one of the most successful college football programs in the Pac-12, compiling a 177-88 overall record and winning three conference championships.

But his first season at Michigan hasn't gone according to plan. The Wolverines' defense has been strong, but their offensive struggles have overshadowed that, and they still haven't figured out the quarterback situation, with both Bryce Underwood and Tommy Carr failing to get Michigan back in the win column.

This team has five games left on its schedule: at Rutgers on Friday, against Michigan State on Nov. 7, at Oregon on No. 14, at home against No. 7 UCLA on Nov. 21, and at No. 2 Ohio State on Nov. 28. They're still above .500, but now face a brutal stretch of Big Ten opponents, including two ranked teams firmly in the College Football Playoff conversation.

Michigan's season isn't entirely over, though, even if their CFP hopes are dead. They remain bowl-eligible, but will need to secure at least two more wins to get there. The upcoming stretch of games will be crucial to salvage what they can out of what's been an otherwise disappointing season.
