Llanybydder Rugby Club could close after more than 50 years

Llanybydder Rugby Club has issued a "heartfelt appeal" to the community after a shortage of players left its future hanging in the balance.

The club, which has been active for 52 years, said it could be forced to fold if the situation does not improve.

A spokesperson for the club said: "It is with great sadness that we have to share the news that Llanybydder Rugby Club is facing an uncertain future, and we may have to fold due to a shortage of players.

"For 52 years, our club has been part of the heart and soul of our local community.

"Generations of players, families, supporters and volunteers have walked through our doors, creating friendships, memories and a sense of belonging that goes far beyond the rugby pitch.

"To think that our club, with its proud history and so many years of dedication behind it, could come to an end is heart breaking."

The club described itself as "more than just a rugby team," calling it a "community, a family and a part of [the] village’s history."

Generations of players, families, supporters and volunteers have been involved over the years.

The club said it is now fighting to preserve “52 years of memories, friendships, tradition and community spirit for the next generation.”

The committee and players said they are "devastated" to have reached this point and are appealing to the wider community for support.

The spokesperson said: "We are reaching out to our local community, past players, former supporters, and neighbouring rugby clubs.

"Please, if you have any ideas, suggestions or can offer any help that might give our club a future, we would be so grateful to hear from you.

"Whether it is helping us attract new players, offering support, sharing ideas, or simply spreading the word, every little bit could make a difference."

The club also welcomed advice from other local rugby clubs that have faced similar challenges.

The spokesperson said: "We know times are difficult, and we are not asking for miracles.

"We are simply asking people to help us explore every possible avenue before we have to consider closing the doors on a club that has stood for 52 years.

"Imagine the sadness of seeing another village rugby club disappear."

The committee and players have thanked those who have supported the club over the years.

The spokesperson said: "From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has supported Llanybydder Rugby Club over the past 52 years.

"Your support has helped make the club what it is today, and we sincerely hope this is not the end of our story.

"Please help us give Llanybydder Rugby Club a fighting chance.

"We are not ready to say goodbye, and we hope that, with the support of our community and fellow rugby clubs, we may still find a way forward".
