An association of British lawyers who support Israel on Monday urged the British soccer clubs Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool to investigate and take action against the unauthorized sale of jerseys with their official branding that feature pro-Palestinian messaging.
UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) said the problematic soccer shirts closely resemble official merchandise sold by each team by including their colors, designs, and similar logos. However, the products also feature designs and messaging that suggest the soccer teams endorse the Palestinian cause. UKLFI said they are being marketed and sold online by a business called “From Palestine to the World,” but the company responsible for the items, FREEPLTN LLC, has an address in Albuquerque, New Mexico, according to its US trademark registration.
The association of British lawyers cited data that shows the freepltn.com website received more than 465,000 visits between July and September 2026, roughly 30 percent of which stemmed from the United Kingdom.
“These football clubs have spent decades building brands recognized by millions of supporters around the world. It is unacceptable for commercial operators to exploit those brands to promote political causes without the clubs permission,” said a UKLFI spokesperson.
“The shirts are sufficiently similar to official merchandise that supporters could wrongly assume they have been approved by the clubs. That is particularly concerning when the products associate the clubs with such a divisive political issue,” added the spokesperson. “Football clubs have supporters from many different backgrounds, including Jewish and Israeli fans, and should not have political positions attributed to them by unauthorized third parties. We hope Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool will take appropriate steps to protect their trademarks, their supporters, and their commercial reputations.”
One shirt attempting to look like a Manchester City jersey is in the club’s traditional sky-blue color and has a circular badge closely resembling the team’s official emblem. However, the words “MANCHESTER CITY” on the shirt have been replaced with “MANCHESTER WITH GAZA,” while the traditional Etihad Airways sponsorship branding on the shirt has been replaced with the message “PALESTINE AIRWAYS.”
Another shirt being sold by the company features Liverpool’s traditional red colors and a white Liver bird emblem that resembles the team’s official symbol, but the letters “L.F.C.” under the bird have been changed to “P.L.C.” A separate Manchester United-style shirt features the team’s red color and includes a modified version of the club’s crest and Palestine-related messaging across the chest.
UKLFI noted that the selling of the shirts may be illegal under the UK’s Trade Marks Act 1994 and could negatively affect the reputation and commercial relationships that the teams have, as well as their standing among Jewish and Israeli fans.
“UKLFI has raised concerns with the English football clubs that the manufacture, advertising, and sale of the shirts may infringe their registered trademarks, constitute passing off and damage their commercial reputations,” the associated stated. “UKLFI argues that the imitation shirts may breach these provisions by reproducing recognizable club branding on football merchandise, potentially creating a misleading association between the clubs and the Palestinian political cause … UKLFI emphasized that while individuals and organizations are entitled to express political opinions, including support for Palestine, this does not give them the right to appropriate another organization’s protected intellectual property.”
