Phil Mickelson received a whopping amount of cash from LIV Golf in 2026 despite playing just one event all season, according to court documents.

The rebel circuit is facing a legitimate possible shutdown as some of their top names announce departures ahead of the 2027 season. Jon Rahm, Adrian Meronk, Tyrrell Hatton, Sergio Garcia, one-time major winner Louis Oosthuizen, and a handful of others have announced they do not want to be a part of LIV Golf 2.0.

LIV Golf voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on September 8th after the PIF announced they would cut funding following the 2026 season, but they've found a new investor in BC Partners Credit.

With the deadline still set for players to commit to LIV Golf 2.0, Mickelson has been on the back burner of people's minds, as the 56-year-old played just one LIV Golf event this season due to family struggles.

He also missed all four major championships in 2026, marking the first time in his professional career that he did not compete in a single major during a calendar year. But his paycheck has not taken a blow, receiving just over $6 million.

According to court records, Mickelson is identified as "Pershing LLC Player" and designated as a "Manager" in a section detailing insider compensation during the 12 months leading up to the bankruptcy filing.

The six-time major winner started and ended his 2026 LIV Golf season with LIV Golf South Africa in March.

Each installment is categorized as a player participation agreement payment, which represents LIV Golf's designation for player contracts.

The documents reveal a sequence of distinct payments to Mickelson despite his growing absence in the game of golf. He received an initial disbursement of $1,232,933.14 on October 10, 2025, followed by $1,236,607.14 on January 12, $1,057,500 on March 13, and two separate payments of $1,236,607.14 on April 16 and July 14.

Combined, these payments reach a cumulative total of $6,000,254.56 and the four payments in 2026 totaled to about $4.77 million. Two-time major winner Rahm's PPA paid $4.946 million per quarter, totaling to nearly $20 million a year.

It comes after Scott O'Neil was handed a retention payment of around $6.4 million less than three months before they filed for bankruptcy.

According to court records, O'Neil was awarded a retention bonus of $6.375 million on June 24, following an earlier bonus of approximately $2.7 million on Feb. 13. He was paid in excess of $13.6 million between Sept. 12, 2025, and Aug. 28, 2026, covering salary, bonuses, retention sums, benefits, and expense reimbursements.
