Galatasaray plans to keep Sane amid January exit rumors

Galatasaray plans to keep Leroy Sane despite speculation about a January departure, according to Sky Germany reporters Kerry Hau and Nico Ditter. The winger continues to receive support from club president Dursun Ozbek.

Sky reports that there is no substance to the current winter exit rumors, while interest from Saudi Arabia has gone quiet. Sane remains part of the club’s plans as he tries to recover his form.

The 30-year-old has yet to register a goal or an assist in nine competitive appearances this season. Across his Galatasaray career, his return stands at seven goals and nine assists from 52 matches.

The latest setback came in the 4-1 Champions League defeat to Barcelona. Galatasaray took the lead in Istanbul before conceding four times, with Joao Cancelo, Fermin Lopez, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi scoring for the visitor.

Sane responded on social media by thanking supporters and stressing that the team remained together through difficult periods. He said he was working every day to reach his best level and give fans the performances they expected.

He arrived from Bayern Munich as a free agent in the summer of 2025, signing a three-year contract through 2028. The move followed five seasons in Germany, where he won four Bundesliga titles after joining from Manchester City. He had already won two Premier League titles during his time in England. He recorded 61 goals and 55 assists in 220 Bayern appearances before leaving.

Galatasaray also completed a permanent deal for Victor Osimhen that summer, paying a reported €75 million after the striker’s successful loan. Sane joined an attack being strengthened for domestic and European competition.

There have been productive spells in Turkey. In April’s 3-0 derby win over Fenerbahce, Sane created five chances, more than any other player on the field. Galatasaray moved seven points clear with three league games remaining after that result.
