The return of Floyd Mayweather Jr. to professional boxing has been teased for years now. His last “pro” fight came against Conor McGregor, over nine years ago. That win brought his record to 50-0, making it the perfect way to ride off into the sunset.
The fighting itch never went away for Money Mayweather, though. He didn’t want to put his record on the line, opting to take part in eight exhibition fights from 2018 to 2024 instead. But with his former rival Manny Pacquiao coming out of retirement at 46 years old last year and looking good while doing it, fans want to see Mayweather do the same.
Apparently, it actually might happen soon, and his opponent is a dangerous one. Ryan Garcia, fresh off of back-to-back world title wins over Mario Barrios and Conor Benn, confirmed this week that he has a fight agreement in place with Mayweather. There’s a 22-year age difference between the two.
Mayweather hasn’t confirmed anything, and it sounds like the potential fight is already on thin ice. On Friday, Garcia sent a “final warning” to Mayweather to make the fight happen. Regardless of whether Mayweather signs the contract or not, Garcia claims he’s fighting on February 6, with or without him.
Garcia had already mentioned that February 6 date. His opponent would be Mayweather or Teofimo Lopez. No on actually expects Mayweather to fight Garcia, but it was a fun idea to get excited about for a little bit of time. Lopez just makes way more sense.
