Cam Heyward reacts to Jared Verse's garbage comments ahead of rematch

The stakes are sky-high in the AFC North as the 5-2 Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for a first-place clash against the 5-2 Cleveland Browns. However, the tension heading into the matchup was ignited long before kickoff, thanks to some lingering trash talk from Cleveland pass-rusher Jared Verse.

Following Cleveland’s victory over Pittsburgh earlier this season, Verse took unprompted shots at the Steelers' blocking schemes and physical play style.

"I was telling them like y'all, they were talking crazy. I'm like, 'Y'all double teaming. y'all sliding. Y'all garbage,'" Verse previously stated. "I don't got no respect for anybody that plays too dirty, and that does too much extra after the game. So, I can't wait to see them again."

Appearing on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Steelers veteran defensive captain Cameron Heyward wasted no time addressing Verse’s complaints with dry wit, dismantling the notion that standard protection schemes constitute dirty play.

"Double teaming, sliding, chipping, are those not allowed in our game?" Heyward quipped. "Yeah, those are legal."

While Heyward acknowledged that playing in the trenches comes with physical wear, admitting he has "the bruises to prove it," he emphasized that Pittsburgh isn't in the business of complaining about standard football concepts.

Instead, the veteran leader made it crystal clear that Verse’s harsh words haven't gone unnoticed inside the Steelers' locker room.

"We don't whine about it, baby," Heyward told Eisen. "It's part of the game, but those are words that were said, and they will be addressed."

With first place in the division up for grabs, Heyward expressed excitement for the high-stakes battle.

"These are the type of games you want," Heyward said. "It's a five-star matchup. bring it on."

As the division rivals prepare to collide with the top spot in the AFC North on the line, Verse’s comments have provided Pittsburgh with all the bulletin-board material they need. Heyward and the Steelers seem more than ready to let their play on the field do the rest of the talking.
