Taunton Town beat Evesham United 4-1 to return to winning ways

Taunton Town secured a comfortable victory on the road to get back to winning ways.

The Peacocks scored four goals, gave a debut to a new signing and were helped by a first goal for the club by Max Davies.

Jay Murray, Ben Seymour and Alfie Moulden also scored.

Manager Gary Johnson returned to the touchline after missing the previous game through illness and made a couple of changes to the starting XI who lost to Hanwell Town, with Ben Seymour and Gabe Billington coming in for Niall Thompson and Jack Anthony.

New signing Tylor Love-Holmes was on the bench.

It took the Peacocks just 180 seconds to score the first goal as Jay Murray added to his impressive tally since joining on loan from Weston-super-Mare AFC.

The lead only lasted six minutes though as they took advantage of chaos caused when a shot hit the underside of the bar and bounced out to their player.

Less than 60 seconds later, the Peacocks were back on the attack and a nicely worked corner involving Jack Rice and Jay Murray found Alfie Moulden but he could only find the goalkeeper.

Taunton were back in front on 28 minutes though as they benefited from their own crossbar chaos.

Scott Robinson’s header came off the woodwork and fell kindly to Seymour who scored into the bottom corner.

Evesham broke through the Town defence five minutes later, but Freddie Godden was there to save and on 37 minutes, it was 3-1 as Alfie Moulden got his goal.

There was still time before half time for Ben Seymour to have a shot which went wide.

The score remained 3-1 at half time.

Taunton took six minutes to have a shot in the second half as Rice’s free kick was straight into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Then on 67 minutes Moulden curled one just past the post.

Taunton got their fourth shortly after as former Bristol City man Max Davies scored his first goal for the club.

Johnson then rang the changes with Holmes making his debut and fellow substitute Phil Mendonca found Jamie Richards but he could not add a fifth.

Sam Lord also had an effort in the final 10 minutes which only found the goalkeeper.

Taunton Town saw the match out to seal three points on the road.
