The Denver Broncos are calling up three reinforcements from the practice squad ahead of a Week 8 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Denver elevated offensive lineman Gavin Ortega, running back Cody Schrader and safety Taylor Rapp from the practice squad to the game-day roster for Week 8, the team announced. Both players will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.
With Talanoa Hufanga still working his way back from an ankle injury, Rapp will provide more depth at safety. Ortega will provide a cushion as All-Pro tackle Garett Bolles is listed as questionable with a hip injury. Schrader gives the team more depth at running back with RJ Harvey dealing with a knee injury. Harvey was placed on short-term injured reserve on Saturday.
NFL clubs can elevate up to two players from the practice squad to the game-day roster each week, and those players do not have to clear waivers to return to the practice squad after the game. However, there is a limit of three elevations per player each season. This week marks Rapp's third and final elevation of the season, with it being Ortega's and Schrader's first.
Sunday's game (4:25 p.m. MT) will be televised across most of the country on CBS (view the TV broadcast map). Despite playing at home, the Broncos are considered underdogs against their division rival this week.
