Liverpool are in need of a new central midfielder in 2027, and reliable journalist Ben Jacobs has now provided the latest regarding three potential targets.
The Reds have found some rhythm under Andoni Iraola, winning four matches in a row in all competitions, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t issues within the squad.
There are several areas where Liverpool feel short currently, including right-back and up front, and a new face is also required at the heart of their midfield.
Writing on X, Jacobs claimed that Chelsea are in a stronger position to sign Bournemouth ace Alex Scott at the moment, but he is still a possibility for the Reds, as well as Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Roma’s Manu Kone:
“Chelsea increasingly confident of signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January. Scott is Chelsea’s top target after Enzo Fernandez’s left for Manchester City on deadline day over the summer. Bournemouth want £100m+ and Xabi Alonso’s side are already in fresh talks having made multiple bids over the summer.
“Liverpool also hold an interest in Scott, but have less urgency to add a midfielder in January. Monaco’s Lamine Camara, who Chelsea failed to sign on deadline day, and Roma’s Manu Kone are two other targets.”
A new midfielder is imperative for Liverpool, preferably in January, but if not at the end of the season, and Camara is arguably the leading option in the middle of the park.
Scott is a big talent, but the fact that he is English is likely to make his price tag overblown, whereas the Monaco star would be cheaper and is more defence-minded, which the Reds need.
Kone is also a good option, and has been linked with Liverpool for years now, but Camara ticks so many boxes in his all-round game, being lauded by Monaco manager Filipe Luis recently:
“From everything that I saw, there is one thing that caught my eye. I have never seen that in 20 years; it’s Lamine Camara. He is a ‘different’ player from what I’ve seen so far. His ability to manage things on the pitch and his concentration. He has a level that is way, way above average.”
Whatever happens, at least one new midfield addition is essential for Liverpool, if not two, depending on Alexis Mac Allister’s future.
