Charlie Woods proves worth after fighting off brutal conditions in state championship
Charlie Woods led his high school team to victory after sinking a 40-foot birdie putt

Charlie Woods earned medalist honors at the Champions Club at Summerfield in Stuart, leading the Buccaneers to the Class 1A-District 14 title.

The win advances Benjamin's defense of its Florida boys golf state championship and provides Woods a strong comeback following recent struggles. Shooting a two-under-par 69, the Florida State commit clinched medalist honors by sinking a dramatic 40-foot birdie putt on the final hole.

Behind this standout effort, Benjamin posted a 290 team total to secure a 15-shot triumph ahead of second-place Oxbridge Academy.

Despite early pushes from both King's Academy and Oxbridge, the Buccaneers pulled away on the back nine to capture the district title and keep their postseason run moving.

"We got two good rounds out of Charlie and Brooks," Benjamin coach Toby Harbeck said. "Charlie made a 40-foot putt on the last hole to win the individual title. Charlie shot a 69 and Brooks shot a 70. That's what you want out of your No. 1 and No. 2."

Woods carded birdies on the fourth, 10th, 13th, and 18th holes, and parred 13 others. The final putt allowed him to edge teammate Brooks Colton by a single shot after Colton carded a one-under 70 featuring an eagle on the fourth hole.

The win came for the high schoolers despite facing grueling conditions throughout the day.

"It played really hard, long, and windy and rainy," Harbeck said. "It was everything. So, I'm very pleased. You're trying to move on each week and get to the finals, so that's what we did. We've got to keep going forward."

The Buccaneers secured the Class 1A state championship in November 2025 with a team score of 572. Before joining Florida State next year, Woods may also feature alongside his father in a PGA Tour event this December.

Speaking on the Fore Play podcast, Kevin Kisner revealed the 82-time PGA Tour winner Woods is also hoping to make a full TGL return this year and could play in the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship.

“He’s going to play both,” four-time PGA Tour winner Kisner said.

“He can’t have any more setbacks injury-wise. The way he was swinging and moving on the range, I mean, the guy loves to compete. Come back, get your feet wet at the Hero, play with Charlie in the Father/Son, play some TGL, get ready for Augusta.”
