Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has found himself at the center of yet another explosive off-field controversy after releasing a video accusing Brazilian presidential candidate Senator Flavio Bolsonaro of stealing his private island. Reporting for The Sun, James Graham details how the 29-year-old Spurs outcast claims high-profile politician and associate Willer Tomaz took advantage of ongoing court proceedings to seize control of the property in Angra dos Reis, on Rio de Janeiro’s Green Coast.
According to the Brazil international, he originally purchased the island between 2020 and 2021 and subsequently turned down several purchase offers, including explicit bids from Bolsonaro. Richarlison stated that after he refused to sell, legal maneuvers were used to expedite a transfer of possession while documentation was still being resolved in court, alleging that the justice system failed to protect his rights.
The forward revealed the substantial financial impact of the dispute, noting that he had invested heavily into the island without receiving any reimbursement or financial settlement following the sudden change in ownership. The public accusation marks a dramatic escalation in the player’s personal affairs outside of football.
“I didn’t want to sell the island to him. Because I didn’t want to, those guys took advantage of the situation in court. We were sorting out the paperwork, and they said it would take months or even years to resolve. Flavio Bolsonaro and this guy Willer Tomaz went there and, in 24 hours, took possession of the island. That’s where the justice system failed. Those guys took the island without spending a penny, as far as I know. I spent around R$ 10 million there and received nothing.”
In the published video, Richarlison directly called upon law enforcement authorities to launch a formal police investigation into the matter while urging his social media followers to demand public explanations from Flavio Bolsonaro. The legal battle adds another complex layer to a turbulent period for the attacker, who remains completely exiled from Roberto De Zerbi’s first-team squad in North London.
The dispute coincides with Richarlison making a goalscoring return to match action for Tottenham’s Under-21 side against Cheltenham, six weeks after submitting a formal transfer request. Having previously accused Spurs of attempting to sell him to Everton without his consent and declaring that he will never allow anyone else to dictate his future, the forward’s latest off-field ordeal underscores an increasingly fractured relationship with both club and external authorities.
