The 31-year-old will move to American-based UCI (International Cycling Union) WorldTour outfit start January 1 ending a three-year spell with Germany’s Lidl-Trek.
Holloway-born Geoghegan Hart, who started his competitive racing career with Cycling Club Hackney, claimed the prestigious Giro d’Italia title as a now-defunct Team Sky rider in 2020 and became the fifth Briton after Kilburn’s Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Simon Yates to win a UCI Grand Tour major.
Since making the move to Lidl-Trek in 2023, Arsenal-fan Geoghegan Hart’s career has been stop-start. A few months after winning the Tour of the Alps around the combined Austria-Italy regions of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino and then finishing third at central Italian-based Tirreno-Adriatico, he crashed out fracturing his femur (thigh bone) during stage 11 of Giro d’Italia.
His best finishes from this year’s races have seen him placed 19th in Volia Comunitat Valenciana, Spain and more recently 35th position in Skoda Tour De Luxembourg.
Geoghegan Hart, who is married to Arsenal Women’s defender Bow-born Lotte Wubben-Moy, is excited with working with his new EF Education-EasyPost team-mates and rejuvenating his career that made him a Grand Tour champion back in 2023.
“There are a lot of people on this team I’ve known for a long time and also quite a few young riders I’ve got to know recently whom I’m excited to work alongside,” he said.
“On a personal level, it’s really about trying to re-find the condition I had in my best years. It’s an exciting prospect to come into a new environment with new ideas, perspectives and different people.
“I love being part of a really well-connected collective – being part of a team. I grew up playing team sports until I started racing at about 14 and I was lucky it wasn’t long before I was racing as part of teams at national level, at 15 or 16.
“Having grown up riding on the track especially – the team pursuit, the Madison, proper team events – that’s always been what interested me most in cycling. I was on a really international under-23 team with guys from all over the world. I’m still in contact with friends from those years and is one of the things about sport I really love – that multicultural, multinational, geographical, historical element.”
Geoghegan Hart will enter his 13th professional season in 2027 expecting the dominate the front of the peloton in EF Education-EasyPost’s glowing pink colours.
“When I spoke to head sports director Charly Wegelius a few weeks ago I said one thing I really love about cycling is the feeling of turning up to a race hotel with fire in your belly,” he added. “Knowing you did really great preparation in the weeks or months leading in with your eyes on the prize. I look forward to chasing that feeling.”
