Brentford head coach Keith Andrews had few complaints about the two red cards that his players received against Liverpool on Saturday.

But he felt that his side could have gotten something out of the fixture had it been played 11 versus 11, with Liverpool only securing the points in the second half when playing against 10 men thanks to goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak.

While the Reds emerged victorious, it was anything but an easy win. Andoni Iraola's side had to battle hard to get over the line, securing a third Premier League win of the season in the process.

"There’s a lot that went on in the game, obviously," Andrews said in his post-match press conference.

"We were edging it — we were getting into a good rhythm — starting to play with more belief and speed, thought and actions. And we got ourselves in front.

"I felt very confident coming into the game — we’re not overconfident, but I had confidence. When we got the goal, I felt we were getting into a good rhythm and way of playing.

"The bench was strong and we were going to be able to make changes. But the sending off changes the dynamic of the game and we gave them an advantage."

Brentford midfielder Yehor Yarmoliuk was given his marching orders in the first half for a supposed headbutt on Liverpool center-back Jeremy Jacquet. It looked harsh, but the Bees boss was in no mood to use that as an excuse.

"He’s clearly disappointed," Andrews admitted. "He’s an amazing young man. We need to remember he is young and someone we love working with and want to try and develop.

"We need to look at ourselves first — we don’t tend to look at what part they play in the incident. I think they were cute and clever — Yarmo needs to do better, and I can understand why that was a red.

"I’ve seen both of Vitaly’s yellows back — I like our players playing with emotion and I like us to play on the edge and when you do that and you feel that some decisions aren’t fair, that can be difficult for the players.

"Our players aren’t robots. We have a spirit in our team that’s really special. Could there have been a bit more consistency? Perhaps.

"If you look at where Jacquet is walking, he’s not looking at the ball. He’s walking into Yarmo. But we focus on us and our actions."
