Harry Kane won the Ballon d’Or this week and on TNT Sports ahead of today’s Chelsea – Man U game, Joe Cole was asked about which other English players he thought could win it in the future.

“Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, these players can step up… Harry Kane has opened the door up for all of them, to think ‘if Harry can do it’…,” the former England and Chelsea winger said.

“You don’t have to be [a prodigy like] Lamine Yamal… you can be anything.

“We’ve got some super talents… We’ve never had this big a pool of talent to choose from.”

Cole Palmer certainly showed Ballon d’Or form for about 18 months. The problem is that the 18 months since then have been nowhere close to that.

In fact today his team desperately need him to step up and win them the game, forget individual awards, Chelsea need points on the board. Palmer needs to play well for an extended period before he starts worrying about anything like this.

In other news…

Jordan Henderson has been left out of the Chelsea squad today, and before kick off the local reporters found out why.

Estevao starts today, and so it makes sense that Alonso was defending his treatment of the player in the press conference on Friday.
