Blackburn Rovers star allays suspension fears amid tightrope

The Blackburn Rovers midfielder is just one booking away from a one-match ban for accumulated cautions. The cut-off for five bookings is after matchday 19, which is away at Bolton on December 5.

Morsy says he will go into tomorrow's visit of Wrexham with the same focus and mindset as usual and not allow the looming threat of a suspension to affect his game; not negatively, anyway.

"I think people have always said I've had better spells when I'm one away from a suspension! So hopefully that's the case," he smiled.

"You have got to be a little bit more sensible but at the same time just play your normal game.

"Maybe once upon a time you'd think and you'd try and maybe say, 'Can I get through this game? Can I get through that game?' But in the end you've got to be sensible with it, but you don't want to think about it too much.

"But I just try to play my normal game, just without the silly (bookings), if you like.

"You can get booked for anything, and it might even be a refereeing mistake and you get booked for it.

"I'm trying not to think about it too much. If it happens, it happens."

After the five-card threshold passes, players must avoid 10 yellow cards by the end of the 32nd match or incur a two-match ban, while 15 cautions throughout the season lead to an automatic three-match ban.

With ever-present Morsy having picked up four bookings from 11 Championship games, he has a sense of inevitability about impending punishment, given he collected those in the space of six games.

"It's a one-game suspension; it's not the end of the world, and it would give an opportunity for someone else to stake a place when it happens," added the 35-year-old.
