Peter Grant has backed a Celtic fan’s suggestion that the club should consider signing a Dundee player after they drew with Rangers.
The 28-year-old impressed in Dundee’s 2-2 draw with the Ibrox club on Saturday, and Grant reckons he has shown he can handle himself against the Premiership’s better teams.
Former Celtic striker Tony Watt has high praise for the 20-year-old 🙌
A Celtic supporter called Kevin raised Ethan Hamilton’s name during a recruitment discussion on Go Radio.
Grant agreed with the suggestion and pointed to Hamilton’s performances against Celtic as one of the reasons he rates the Dundee midfielder so highly.
Grant said: “The thing is you say he’s performed in the big games. That’s what I liked about him. And every time Dundee have played Celtic recently, I think Dundee have been excellent.
“He’s been one of the reasons. Just with his power. People saw maybe he doesn’t receive it well off the back guys, but he’s got a hell of a lot more strength than he has weaknesses. And I think that’s always the big thing because you’re never ever going to be the complete player, but Ethan Hamilton, as you said, has been magnificent when he’s played in the big games.
“And I think that’s when you judge them. Can they handle playing against so-called better players? And I think he’s been able to do that. So, no, it’s a very good shout.”
Hamilton captained Dundee against Rangers at Dens Park and picked up the sponsors’ Man of the Match award.
He caused problems in the first half, delivering a corner that Ashley Hay headed against the crossbar before going close himself with a strike from 25 yards.
Hamilton scored against Celtic in February’s Scottish Cup meeting at Parkhead, putting Dundee ahead with a superb second-half strike.
Junior Adamu spared Celtic’s blushes with a late equaliser before Sebastian Tounekti grabbed the winner in extra time.
Hamilton’s finish also caught the attention of Kris Boyd, who praised the Dundee midfielder’s goal during his reaction to the cup tie.
Dundee supporters named Hamilton their Player of the Year in May following his first season at Dens Park.
The midfielder joined from Lincoln City in August 2025 after spells with Peterborough United and Accrington Stanley. He previously came through Manchester United’s youth system.
Hamilton signed a three-year deal when he moved to Dundee, keeping him under contract until May 2028.
Celtic have not been linked with a move for Hamilton, but the Dundee midfielder now has the backing of Grant and Guidi after his performances against both Glasgow clubs.
