Daniel Dubois Reveals Why He Told Don Charles To Calm Down During Fabio Wardley Fight

Dubois went into the much-anticipated rematch as the WBO champion, having stopped the Ipswich man in their first meeting earlier in the year. That was a fight of the year contender with all-out action for 11 rounds after ‘DDD’ was put down twice early on.

However, this fight was much different, with Dubois landing a big shot within the first 20 seconds that took the wind out of Wardley and dropped his rival.

He kept the pressure on after that and in the second round landed enough blows to force the referee to step in and stop the fight. Wardley was still on his feet but was not firing back and looked to have little left.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Dubois explained what went on in his corner during the first round when he told his coach Don Charles and told him to calm down.

“Calm down, Don” 😅

“We were just in fight mode really. I just wanted him to control himself. I was in control of myself. It’s all that testosterone, isn’t it. It’s the pressure, it’s real. You can feel it, as you go into fight week, you become irritated, you become an animal, a different person.”

Dubois has admitted he now wants to go on to unification fights and the biggest contests possible. His promoter Frank Warren also represents IBF champion Filip Hrgovic, who is keen for his shot at revenge, with Dubois having been stopped by him in June 2024, while Agit Kabayel is the WBC champion and could be another option.
