Arsenal have missed out on several players on the transfer market.

Arsene Wenger’s list of near misses is worthy of a book, but Mikel Arteta could fill a few lines with players he wanted but never got over the last seven years.

The likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Manuel Locatelli rejected Arsenal in the Spaniard’s early years at the club, while his wish to sign players like Morgan Rogers, Julian Alvarez and Vinicius Jr has remained unfulfilled as well.

Now, the agent of another player Arsenal missed out on recently has opened up about the Gunners’ interest.

Who would you like Arsenal to sign in the January transfer window and why?

Nico Williams’ agent confirms his client rejected Arsenal

Nico Williams has been heavily linked with Arsenal for over two years now.

The Gunners have had their eye on the Spaniard for a long time, but the summer they tried their hardest to sign him was back in 2024.

Williams had an impressive season with Athletic Club and was one of Spain’s best players in their triumphant European Championship campaign.

Arsenal and a number of top clubs across Europe tried to sign the ‘unstoppable‘ winger this summer, but he ended up staying in Bilbao in the end.

Williams’ agent, Felix Tainta, has now shed some light on the situation, and he has revealed that it was the player who said no to all the clubs, including Arteta’s Arsenal.

He said, as per Goal: “We all know about Barca’s interest in the summer of 2024, after the European Championship.

“Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain… I could name them all. Everyone wanted Nico, and having a player say no to all these clubs isn’t easy.”

Arsenal shouldn’t be too upset about missing out on Nico Williams

Williams would’ve definitely been one of the most exciting signings of the Arteta era.

The Spain international is rapid, an elite dribbler, and on his day, he is almost impossible to stop. The fact that he can play on both wings is a huge advantage as well.

However, Williams’ output since Arsenal missed out on him in 2024 hasn’t been great. In the last two seasons, he has scored a combined 11 goals in 54 La Liga appearances. This campaign, he has managed just one goal in six games.

Yes, an argument can be made that Arteta would’ve helped him improve a lot more, but his numbers show that Arsenal shouldn’t be too upset about missing out on him either.
