The Tennessee Titans have parted ways with Jordan Elliott after a cryptic "incident" involving the defensive tackle at their team facility.

On Tuesday, the Titans confirmed Elliott's departure, citing an unspecified incident that occurred on October 15. "Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster," an official statement read. "We will have no further comment on the matter."

In March, the Titans signed Elliott to a two-year, $8 million deal that featured $500,000 in incentives. The 28-year-old sat out Tennessee's 26-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts after skipping last Friday's practice while "dealing with personal stuff," with fellow offseason addition Alontae Taylor also listed as a healthy scratch for the game. According to a team source who spoke with ESPN, the choice to part ways with Elliott was "universally agreed upon."

The NFL has also been informed of the circumstances. Across five games this season - including one start - Elliott tallied 11 tackles for the Titans.

In recent years, Titans head coach Robert Saleh has consistently praised Elliott, having collaborated with the 28 year old on the San Francisco 49ers during the previous two seasons before recruiting him to Tennessee.

"I mean, he's a big body, he's stout," Saleh said of Elliott last December. "He has got good short-area quickness and good foot speed and he's physical with his hands.

"When he gets off the ball and he strikes and everything's aligned, he's pretty dominant in there. So, obviously having him in there helps big time for the run game."

A month prior, Saleh highlighted Elliott as a seasoned player capable of mentoring the 49ers' young defensive rookies. "I think it helps more that you've got veterans in this building on the D-Line like [DL] Kalia Davis and [DL] Jordan [Elliott]," he stated.

"Shoot even Sam O, so you've got great veterans there. You've got veterans in the linebacker room, you've got veterans in the DB room to help guide along all these kids."

During a press conference last Friday, Saleh initially suggested something was amiss with Elliott, who unexpectedly appeared on the injury report.

"One thing that will show up on the injury report is Jordan Elliott won't practice today," he noted at the time. "He's dealing with some personal stuff."

When questioned about Elliott's availability for the Titans' AFC South matchup against the Colts, Saleh responded: "I'm not there yet."
