Blackburn Rovers given Halloween fright as Swansea run riot

It was a Halloween horror show from Tony Mowbray's side as they found themselves 3-0 inside 36 minutes after a woeful display.

Swansea played them off the park and yet each of the first-half goals were avoidable. The first came after 11 minutes when Stephen Eustaquaio was left unmarked in the six-yard box to tap in Joseph Opoku's cross.

The lively winger then scored himself after a Tom Atcheson mistake put him clean through on goal, slotting past Toth.

Four minutes later, it was three and the score did not flatter Swansea. Filip Issah got the wrong side of his marker to drive into the box and squeeze a shot past Balazs Toth.

The fourth came on the hour, with Ross Stewart beating the Rovers goalkeeper from a tight angle. The rest of the match was played at a training-ground pace with the result a formality.

Mowbray made two tweaks to his side ahead of a three-game week. Kristi Montgomery was fit to replace the suspended Sam Morsy as expected but Atcheson was also recalled in the place of Hayden Carter.

That meant Rovers had tweaked their centre-back set up in the each of the five games since the international break. Whether that be changing the personnel or adding another to facilitate a system switch.

The instability at the back showed as Rovers gifted Swansea a huge leg up with some awful defending. It took the hosts 11 minutes to break the deadlock.

Opoku's pace had already caused problems and he ghosted past his marker to cross for Eustaquio to tap in, having been inexplicably left unmarked inside the six-yard box by Ryan Alebiosu.

That was the confidence boost the hosts needed after being thumped last time out. Total domination ensued as they stuttered their stuff, knocking the ball around as if playing a training match.

Yet despite that, the visitors did create a rare opening. Todd Cantwell was picked out over the top but blazed his shot over when he should have at least hit the target.

That was a rare foray forward. Rovers couldn't get anywhere near Swansea and yet the second was another defensive error.

Atcheson this time the guilty party after failing to deal with routine ball forward and his loose touch gifted the ball to Opoku who raced through to score.

Four minutes later, their dominance was reflected in the scoreline as they scored a third. Gady Beyuku, on as an early substitute for the injured Harry Pickering, got caught out by a ball in-behind, allowing Lissah to shoot underneath Toth.

The game followed a similar pattern in the second half. Swansea were in control but had appeared to take their foot of the gas until a fourth followed on the hour.

Stewart was played behind the defence and produced a brilliant finish, high into the roof of the net at Toth's near post.

Rovers' best foray was a driving run from Augustus Kargbo, who cut it back for Andri Gudjohnsen but the shot was blocked.

The winger then went close after a driving run from one end of the pitch to the other but he couldn't find the target with his shot.

That was the best Rovers produced in what was a genuine horror show on Halloween.
