IN a day of major broadcasting news in Scotland, many football fans were left fearing the worst for their Friday night fix.
But despite the announcement that the BBC Scotland channel will soon be no more, the Scottish Championship WILL continue to be broadcast on live TV.
The BBC Scotland channel has become the home for Friday night Championship football over the past several years and has become popular with footie fans across the country.
It will becoming a digital-first service on the iPlayer from spring 2027.
Since its launch in 2019, BBC Scotland has broadcast a host of live football offerings, including Scotland matches, Premiership play-offs and the weekly Championship offering.

The announcements of the channel’s closure had fans fearing the worst for their Friday night football fix.
One fan wrote: “One thing I will miss is the Scottish Championship games.”
Another said: “I will miss it for the Friday night Scottish Championship matches.”
A third commented: “I love BBC Scotland. Get to watch the Scottish Championship. That’s a real shame.”
A fourth asked: “What about the Scottish football shown on BBC Scotland?”
However, it’s been confirmed that the channel’s closure will NOT mean the end of the live Friday night football.
And while much of the BBC Scotland channel’s content will be heading to the iPlayer, the Championship action will continue to be shown on linear TV.
The BBC have confirmed that the Championship football will be shown live on BBC Two once the Scotland channel is no more.
The current deals with Sky Sports and Premier Sports for the Premiership run out at the end of the 2028/29 season.
Looking ahead to that point in time, the SPFL have now issued an invitation to tender for the broadcasting rights from 2029/30 onwards.
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “Securing strong broadcast partnerships is an essential element in maintaining a balanced and sustainable income mix for the SPFL and its clubs.
“We anticipate strong interest from broadcasters in what is widely recognised as one of Europe’s most exciting national league competitions.”
