Collingbourne Cricket Club celebrate double league title

Collingbourne Cricket Club gathered to mark a successful season, which saw both Saturday teams crowned 2026 champions of their respective divisions in the Hampshire League.

Club president John Baxter applauded the 'truly exceptional' achievement, which is unprecedented in the club's history.

He also commended the club's other successful sections, including the women's division, Collingbourne Sapphires, the expanding youth section, and the Sunday XI, at a time when many clubs are discontinuing Sunday cricket.

Mr Baxter showed appreciation for those working behind the scenes, notably the team who prepare the weekly teas.

He noted that many clubs have stopped providing match refreshments since the Covid pandemic, but Collingbourne continues to offer a traditional cricket tea.

The loudest applause of the night was reserved for first XI skipper Barry Reed.

He led the team to the league championship and was recognised by the Lord's Taverners for his work in providing cricket for disabled players.

He was invited to a dinner at Lord's Cricket Ground in recognition of his efforts.

The club now looks forward to the Hampshire League Presentation Dinner, where they will receive their winner's medals.
