Jarell Quansah answers transfer question amid Liverpool and Arsenal interest

Former Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has been linked with a return to Anfield, as well as a possible move to Arsenal, after an impressive start to life with Bayer Leverkusen

Jarell Quansah has been coy about his future after the defender was asked about a transfer, amid links with a potential return to Liverpool, as well as reported interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid.

It comes after an impressive year for the versatile star, over 12 months on from his Anfield exit, as he has cemented himself as a regular starter for Bayer Leverkusen.

Performances in the Bundesliga have helped elevate his status, to the point where Thomas Tuchel has trusted him to feature for the England national team on a regular basis, either at centre-back or at right-back. It has been quite the rise for the 23-year-old, who has already been catching the eye of several teams with his performances, leading to interest before the coming transfer windows.

Liverpool has been linked with a return, with reports stating that a buyback clause exists in his contract that would allow him to make the switch back to Merseyside, should the club trigger that option and he agrees to making a move.

However, Quansah could be spoilt for choice, with Arsenal having shown keen interest over the summer, in a deal that could be reignited again over the coming transfer markets, while Real Madrid also seems to be monitoring his progress ahead of a future move.

With that interest now building in the defender, he has been asked about his prospects of making a transfer switch, when catching up with German outlet SportBILD.

Quansah appeared to dodge the question and played coy on his future, as he responded: "I just have to concentrate on playing this season. I'll play as many games as possible and try to improve. There's nothing more I can do."

It certainly doesn't shut down the possibility of an exit, or strictly addresses that possibility, but it does dodge the possibility of giving a firm answer.

The 23-year-old has a contract at Bayer Leverkusen until 2030, meaning there will be three years remaining on his deal when the summer transfer window rolls around. That could make any exit tough, though Liverpool's potential to trigger an exit clause could set a ceiling for any transfer price tag in the process.

It's unclear at this stage whether the Reds would be open to activating the clause, with the issue surrounding the defensive ranks set to be addressed in the coming months.

A trio of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Kostas Tsimikas are out of contract next summer, while Ronald Araujo's loan comes to an end, which leaves the club with a difficult decision on renewing deals and whether the depth and quality will be available.

Should all four players not stay on, then suddenly there may be some issues in the backline. A return for Quansah then seems more plausible, especially with his versatility, but it remains to be seen if that will play out.
