Conor Washington, who represented clubs including Newport County, Peterborough United, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Charlton Athletic, Rotherham United and Derby County, faced Wanderers on four occasions during his career.
Three of those meetings came at Adams Park, where Washington says the atmosphere always stood out.
Speaking to BestBettingBonuses.co.uk, the former Northern Ireland striker said: “When you played against Wycombe you always felt like you were in for a proper game, they were always a powerful team that you knew you had to compete with.
“The atmosphere was always good at Adams Park and over the years they've had some difficult players to play against defensively like Anthony Stewart, Kourtney Hause and Tafazolli.”
Washington came up against Wycombe twice for Charlton Athletic during the 2021/22 season, with Wanderers winning both fixtures.
He also featured for Derby County in a goalless draw at Adams Park in April 2024.
His first encounter versus the Blues came way back in December 2013, when he featured for Newport against the Chairboys.
His comments come as Wycombe currently sit 14th in the League One table with 15 points after 12 games.
The club fired Michael Duff at the start of September after a seven game winless streak, and replaced him rookie Tom Hounsell.
The latter has since won five of his nine games in charge.
When asked on where he’ll think Wanderers will finish, he said: “League One is really competitive this season and they'll have the play-offs in their sights.
“But I think they might fall just short if the other clubs at that level can get their act together.”
Since returning to League One following solitary year in the Championship back in 2021, Wycombe have finished in the top half of the third tier in each of the last five seasons.
Two of those terms saw play-off campaigns (2022 and 2025), but no promotion was achieved.
