Star Studded Leicester City Defeat Disheartened Bromley

Bromley's first ever competitive fixture against the ex-Premier League champions was coming off the back of two League One losses away at Mansfield and Stockport County. With their first home game back after the international break came a second game back for Grant Smith in goal, as well as starts for Victor Adeboyejo up front and fresh face Adam Jackson in defence. The opposition were bringing Premier League pedigree with the likes of John Lundstram, Luke Thomas and Alex McCarthy being the most recognisable names to those who would remember Premier League sides of the past.

This Leicester side however had been struggling this season, and reputation alone often isn't enough in football.

Though in the case of a team that won the Premier League ten years ago it's normally a good sign. Leicester only took three minutes to get on the scoresheet. Sammy Braybrooke played Will Alves in down the right hand side and the wing back put the ball past Grant Smith with ease.

And without fully seeming comfortable Leicester were two goals up by fifteen minutes. Luke Thomas went down in the box and everyone but John Lundstram seemed to wait for the call. Nothing came besides a strike from the edge of the box from the ex-Sheffield United, Rangers and Trabzonspor midfielder that Grant Smith was too slow to stop.

Bromley's first proper test of Alex McCarthy's net came in the 25th minute, a half chance as Victor Adeboyejo intercepted a stray Leicester pass. His shot from far out of the box took a deflection but the ball fell straight into the path of the seasoned goalkeeper.

Grant Smith did manage to make up for the goals conceded with a great double save. A defensive scramble left Luke Thomas open who struck the ball to the right and forcing the first save, before Emil Riis Jakobsen's looping header required a stretch from Smith to keep it out.

Leicester would get a third goal just before half time. An exquisite but questionable through ball into Braybrooke let the attacker put the ball on a plate for Luke Thomas who slotted the ball in the Bromley net. Immediate protests began as players and fans alike questioned whether Braybrooke was onside but the goal stood nonetheless at half time.

Bromley started the second half with four of their five allocated substitutions, switching their defensive setup in an attempt to go at the Leicester defence. They could have gotten a goal back quickly as well, as a Pinnock ball into the box was headed clear only as far as substitute Kamil Conteh, striking the ball just wide of the left post.

The second half seemed to quieten down from there, Leicester managing to kill the game with their possession style whilst Bromley were unable to truly put any chances together.

But the game was put beyond doubt as Emil Riis sent the Foxes 4:0 up and on their way to a calm end to proceedings. Sammy Braybrooke picked up his third assist of the evening and had proved himself to be a handful for the Bromley defence, giving Riis an easy chance inside the box to score past Smith.

Bromley again could have had a first goal of the game, a strike by Mitch Pinnock taking a deflection and forcing a save from McCarthy, but it was too little too late by then.

Bromley chances were few and far between late on, and despite what appeared to be a game to remember, Leicester taking home a 4:0 win might make Bromley fans want to forget this one rather quickly.
