Lady Vols' forward named to Katrina McClain Award watch list

Tennessee women's basketball player Fatmata Janneh was named to the Katrina McClain Award Watch List by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Janneh is one of 20 players on the watch list for the award that recognizes the top power forward in NCAA Division I basketball.

Janneh, a native of London England, is one of six SEC players on the list for the award, which is named for the 1987 Player of the Year and class of 2012 Hall of Famer. The award is in its 10th year honoring the best power forwards in women's college basketball and highlights elite talent in the sport. Players can play their way onto the list at any point during the season.

Janneh transferred to Tennessee after playing at Texas A&M last season. She finished second in scoring for the Aggies (11.4 ponts per game). She was also Texas A&M's top rebounder (9.7 rebounds per game). Janneh was ranked sixth among SEC rebounders. She was also ranked 37th nationally. She scored 10-plus points 18 times last season and recorded 10-plus rebounds 16 times and posted 12 double-doubles, including eight in conference play.

Janneh's collegiate career began with two seasons at St. Peter's, where she was a First-Team MAAC performer in 2024-25. She was also named to the conference's all-rookie team as a freshman in 2023-24. In two seasons at St. Peters, Janneh appeared in 85 games, including 83 starts. She averaged 13.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.

In the Lady Vols' exhibition game on Tuesday, Janneh was the leading rebounder in a, 132-63, win over Florida A&M at Food City Center. She finished the contest with 13 rebounds and scored four points.
