Amazing Red has his sights set on a potential dream match with AJ Styles, suggesting the WWE Hall of Famer could eventually return to the ring if the timing is right.
Styles officially retired from in-ring wrestling after losing to Gunther at the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble. However, he has not completely ruled out wrestling again. This is, particularly if he gets the opportunity to share the ring with his son, Avery Styles.
Avery has already begun pursuing professional wrestling. He made his independent wrestling debut in June 2026 before joining TNA and making his in-ring debut in a multi-person outing at Bound For Glory on October 11.
Amazing Red discussed the possibility during an interview with Sports Matters TV. The TNA Hall of Famer suggested that Styles’ continued involvement in his son Avery’s wrestling journey could provide a path toward getting the former WWE Champion back into competition.
Red believes there could be a way to make another match with Styles happen, even if it means going through the next generation to get there.
During the interview, Red explained that he has noticed Styles remaining involved in his son’s development, including accompanying him to training and the wrestling dojo. The TNA veteran believes those connections could eventually draw Styles back into the ring.
“I see what you see, where I see AJ training. See AJ going to the dojo. I see him following his son and making sure he’s doing here and there. And you can tell, you can tell. I don’t think you can leave wrestling,” Red said.
Red acknowledged that wrestlers sometimes need to step away from the business for mental or physical reasons. However, he believes the pull of professional wrestling makes retirement difficult to maintain permanently.
“I think there are moments where we have to step away, for sure, if it’s a mental break, physical break, but wrestling is such a hard thing to leave. It’s just one of those ex-girlfriends that just doesn’t leave you alone,” he added.
Red also suggested that Styles’ son could become a link between the two veterans, potentially creating an opportunity for another match.
“And I feel like if the timing is right for him, maybe I have to go through his son to get to him, you know? Who knows?” Red said.
The possibility has clearly crossed Red’s mind, and he admitted that the idea of facing Avery Styles for a championship could eventually lead to an unexpected encounter with the Phenomenal One.
“I could probably wrestle AJ Styles’ son at some point for the X-Division title. It’s just so crazy. So crazy,” Red said.
Red and Styles have a history dating back to their time in TNA, where both contributed to the promotion’s X-Division scene. Red recently returned to the TNA at Bound For Glory 2026, where he won the X-Division Championship after being inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame.
